Monitor coilwhine

Hey people,

my samsung monitor suffers from acute coilwhine when in game menus, i have it for a little more than a year now and I've never heard that whine before. Should I try an RMA? is there anything else I could try

In game menus? No that's not your monitor, that's your graphics card hitting up to several hundred and even upto 1000+ FPS. This is quite normal. You can reduce this by using either v-sync or adaptive v-sync

No no, my graphics card is as quiet as it can be -i've put my ear next to it- the monitor screams like someone's stabbing it.... :(:(

yeah I'd get that RMA'd quick smart.. does it change pitch/noise/intensity based on the colours on the screen?

Yes but have you tried as I suggested? Seriously though I have never heard of a monitor having coil whine only in game menus, that's just too weird!

Edit: Wait I'm confused here. Are you talking about the monitor's menu system? Thought I saw something in the video, but it was a bit shaky.

Tbh it sounds like some kind of electronic driver (not as in software) issue, it doesn't sound like coil whine to me, sounds like some kind of power delivery issue to me :S

Honestly sounds like the back light is arcing on something, I'd RMA it pronto.

Will do RMA it just before I leave the town for the holidays, there are pending projects and I need my desktop running for the moment, besided my warranty ends in august 2017

If it's arcing (which tbh, now Wraith has said it, isn't a bad idea) it could cause worse damage the longer you leave it. At which point it becomes your fault because you didn't rma it soon enough. Oh that and you could get shocked by a faulty backlight (which will hurt)
