Mobile Graphics card comparison

Ok so recently I have been in the market for a gaming laptop and I see several different graphics chips and the thing is I want to know what is better. I have a line up and this will hopefully shed some light on these mobile graphics chips.

The GT555M vs the GTX460M

The GT555M 3gb vs the GTX460M 3GB

The 6970m vs the GTX485M

P.S. I also could use help in deciding the laptop I want XD . Currently I am looking at the Alienware m18x with a 2920xm CPU and 2 6970m's in crossfire. My budget is around $3'700 and if anyone can tell me something better or anything that would be great.

6970m xfire will equal 1 desktop 6970.

Just out of the good of my heart i want to recommend that you do not get a laptop that expensive. They are convenient to have but for $3,700 you can build a top of the line desktop and get a nice laptop. But if you need a powerful laptop the m18x is a nice machine.

Just out of the good of my heart i want to recommend that you do not get a laptop that expensive. They are convenient to have but for $3,700 you can build a top of the line desktop and get a nice laptop. But if you need a powerful laptop the m18x is a nice machine.

The main reason I wanna do this is because I am thinking of just getting an Extreme lappy to play my games on till lga 2011 CPU's come out but, Idk....I am sorta confused on what to do.....

I honestly wouldn't spend $3,700 on a laptop. You can find some great bargains on heaps good gaming laptops. My friend recently picked up this ASUS Laptop, it's on sale, and he's saving himself $1k. That laptop will also play any game you want it to. But anyway, the point being, why a laptop instead of a desktop? I could never understand justifying the price of a gaming laptop unless I'm working 5 days a week and my job requires me to have my own laptop to do my work on. If I were to work somewhere where I was required to go somewhere for a week every month or so, I'd just get a Mini-ATX case, similar to the build a member here recently did, and just cart a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Save myself a few K and get just as good if not better performance

I'd honestly rather build a hot rig out of hawt arse (eg. HD5870, 1156) secondhand-previous generation parts than wasting nearly four grand on batteries and a portable battery powered heater.

You can build as you go with things that have carry-over value for LGA2011 or whatever platform you end up with. Pick the case you want and it should last you for years if you like the choice you made, the PSU can hang around for years as well, the SSDs or HDDs will do their job now and into the future; since it seems you mainly focusing on games, you should not need to suck in for more than 4GB of RAM tops. Desktop graphics card would whoop half-arsed mobile GPUs (the m does not make it equal but smaller), and again with CPU it's a mobile version.

There's only so much space under your palms, I wonder how many shortcuts are needed to squeeze some of a desktop in.

I would go for the msi range either the gx660 or the gt680, my friend got one and im very impressed with it

Ok change of plans. I am going with the MSI GT780R which has the sandbride Cpu and will be released with the new GTX560M. I just wan't to know if this will be able to run games like World of Warcraft, Metro 2033, Crysis 1-2, Battlefield 3 once it comes out, Modern warfare 2, Black Ops, etc...at close to our max settings at 1080p
