Microsoft's Windows 10 VR Platform will support SteamVR

Hmm, interesting since Valve has been quite afraid of Microsoft in the past, and even ported Steam to Linux just in case Microsoft locked thjeir OS to only use Microsoft store.

I wonder if that'll mean that SteamOS/Steam on Linux development will stall now that the two companies are actually working together.

Valve wants money, that is what drives the decision. This strengthens SteamVR as a platform, driving more mindshare and VR game sales to Steam.

Same thing applies to Linux too, since their Push Valve is now the #1 gaming client/platform on Linux. Nobody else really bothered but it really makes Valve look good in the eyes of a lot of people.

This is about securing Steam as the dominant gaming client, though it goes a long way to help MS get their headsets into the hands of PC users and PC users into Windows 10. It is mutually beneficial.

Valve simply needs more VR headsets to support SteamVR and MS needs to get a large number of headsets in the hands of users. This doesn't mean that they cannot compete in other sections of the market.
