Microsoft has set alarm bells ringing with the latest planned feature to be included in Longhorn. Bill Gates has announced Longhorn will include a blackbox-style recorder that can detail exactly what the user was doing at the time of an OS crash. The program will then send Microsoft details including the contents of emails and documents open at the time the PC failed. The information is ostensibly to help troubleshoot bugs and improve Windows reliability. Apparently privacy experts are up in arms over the proposed addition, but M$ insist that all data will be sent to it anonymously. It also promises the user will be able to pick and choose exactly how much detail will be forwarded to M$.

Analysts warn though that most users will be unaware of the significance of much of the data being passed on, including registry keys. In corporate environments, that info could also be read by IT managers. Theoretically, they could discover employees were job hunting or using the PC for unauthorised purposes at the time of the crash.

More can be read on M$'s intentions here, what are your thoughts?
