Not impressed :) i was kinda excited about win 8 since it was a bid different, but now they just going back :)

I for one am thankful that they're going back to a more traditional look on the Desktop PC. The hybrid "continuum" option seems nice too.

Only thing I don't understand is now that they've announced this. The windows 7 fans (myself included) will just skip 9 and wait for this surely?

Great, now un-bugger the rest of the GUI so it doesn't look like fast-prototype software and more like a finished product not for kids and we're golden.

Nothing to see here imo, as long as windows 7 works for me i wouldnt consider another os for the coming 3 years.

All the while there are ridiculous amounts of content that isn't optional, I'll stick with Windows 7.

I despise having stock prices or plane times forced down my throat*. That's what the net is for. Fuck your stupid tiles.

*see also Google Now.

On my work laptops, I care about the GUI, start menu etc

On my gaming PC I couldn't care less and I'll use whichever gives the best performance in games. At the moment I believe that is 8.1 so that's what gets used. If Windows 9/10/28376627233333/whatever runs games faster/more reliably I will upgrade. If it doesn't I wont.

Don't know if anyone is with me on this or not?

There is NO 9,they have skipped 9 and jumped to 10

I'll jump on to 10, I love 8.1 and would never go back to 7.

You can get rid of the stuff you don't like on 8 so I can't see them not giving you the option on 10 for the start menu. If MS don't do it i'm sure there will be a program that changes the start menu so you can or just gets rid of that part of it.

I haven't used the start menu since Windows 2000 anyway so it doesn't bother me either way.

Hmm 10 already...

I'm still using 7 since some software solutions that I use have problems with windows 8 and 8.1.

I have the feeling that Microsoft is rushing the new windows releases to much and I don't like that.

Those GIANT tiles don't make any sence for desktop pc's at all, good they brought back the start menu tho.
I had to do all kinds of hacks and mods to a win 8 laptop at the office once to make it usable for a win 7 user.
And then i HAD to get the win 8.1 update the enable networking.
Ugh never win 8 for me ever again

i started using 8.1 a few weeks back "its a 90 day trial i will not be keeping it" simply because windows 7 would no longer install on my system.

after installing start is back.. making it boot to desktop. remembering to use file explorer "which is something i used to do any way" and get rid of those rediculous chime things, it really isnt that bad. (but i dont see how people can say it better than 7 x64.. because i cant see it. i can see how it comes close to being as good as 7, but the few annoyances that remain with the gui even after you do everything you can to make it more like a classic windows gui. render it less of a OS for me.

Also I have had a BSOD with windows 8 already and only been using it a short while "it reminds me of the google chrome error screen" I never had a bsod with 7 x64 (unless it was overclocking related)

personally im not buying 8. il use the trial till it runs out then figure out why i couldnt reinstall 7. it was probably something to do with running sys prep when i sent my board away for rma. which then failed to install when it came back and the c drive was a funny format when i started to install 8 any way so i had to format it to get 8 on. so it really probably was sysprep image messing with my windows 7 reinstall. although i have never had that issue before even with a sysprep failing.

As for windows 9/10 (i guess 9 will become 8.2 or windows 10) then i will wait and see if i upgrade. it all depends on the api support that comes with windows 7 x64 over the coming years. or if it comes at a low price and is as good as windows 7x64 but i dont have an issue with the gui then il upgrade.. But i probably still wouldnt upgrade unless 7 x64 is not "able" to use the latest and greatest api's "i call that manufactured life span personally but ho hey, i guess they are a buisiness after all"

Yeah, but like I said you can most likely get rid of them and i'd bet money that someone will release a program that does. :)
I understand that some people don't like these things but you don't have to use them.

Not sure what hacks and mods you had to use but all you need is start8 and it is exactly like 7 and to change the setting to boot straight to desktop to make it like 7.

No, I got something wrong. What about Windows 9, there's an OC3D post about it from the same day. The features seem indentical between 9 and 10, why is 10 needed then?

They (Microsoft) decided to skip a number and call it 10 everyone thought it would be called 9.
