also i hear that vista has the high standards of a rich valley girl... 2gigs minimum?! http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/0...roblems. What OS are we migrating to fellaz?

I've heard good things about linspire, but have never checked it out myself so i'm not sure about compatability and stuff :-/

I personally will be sticking with Windows 2003 server, as i'm betting Microsoft will be supporting this for quite a while to come.

Even when they do stop support for it, the next Windows Server OS will probably still have less hardware requirments than Vista because it will be stripped of all the shitty graphical bollocks i can do without.

U'r right, we should all hold out for win server vista, it may not be too bad...

linspire is a super dumbed down debian distro aimed at super easy use and features to attract windows users... example is a pack configuration so you can install on any pc... and automatically install a set group of packages... think mp3 and dvd decoding, flash, jre, etc... one click and youll be back into a fully usable system like with windows... a gentoo based OS... VidaLinux... has the same thing... VLOS(vidalinux) also has a free an dpay version.... If we have some techies here I would beseech them to make a VidaLike distro that is just gentoo stage 3 with less questions.... but i would be for banding together in support of an OSS OS.... it has to be fast though... ubuntu kicks ass but is SLO W!!! it lags behind windows in load times... perhaps with prelinking it would be better... but firefox, a linux native program for christ sakes, takes between 3-10 seconds to load regardless of pc load... which is always below 1% :)... slackware has a great installer... minus the lack of an automagic partitioning app... which is a small thing... i plan to weather a gentoo install when i get off for the week on thursday... and i also plan to test freebsd 6.0 when it hits final... which should have been last month :).... but the fact that linux seems to have more support makes me lean to a linux OS... but the hacker OS's suffer from elite pricks who like having an OS that only they can use.... there should be an "overclockers" distro... one that comes with WineX or cedega... cvs of course for legal reasons ; ) and mp3 and dvd and bla... hmmm i wonder how hard it is to do all that... its beyond my scope... but i think imma start learning because I want a super OS.... its about time they had a devilishly fast linux with a decent damn installer... and a great packaging system (gentoo with a good installer basically :) ) that is free.... unlike VLOS.. ok ramblings over

How bout SUSE, I luv suse with a passion. I'm down for just about anything as long as it supports nv raid or silicon image raid... Which os we gonna al decide to use that will let us be gamers and overclockers? Gotta be able to play BF2 and CS:S at the very least.

Gamers first, Overclockers second.

Otherwise, what's the point of overclocking.....just to run 3DMark and Aquamark and look at number? Hey everyone! Lets play multiplayer Excel!!!

What about Turbolinux? I haven't had any personal experience but I hear that it's pretty powerful and flexible. Anyone have experience with it that can share some insight?

Ive tried it, and it wasn't that great :(

Lets face it anyway, you aint gonna find a version of Linux that plays Windows games with anywhere near as good speed.

And thats what we are all about, FPS, fast fast fast
