Microsoft reveals its Xbox Series X Console

Yeah I doubt Sony would make any console as ugly as those devkits, but still I have a feeling this will be prettier than the PS5, maybe it's early to be saying this, but I think this may be the best looking console aesthetically I can think of. Clean lines, minimalist look, and a fresh take away from the old VCR style.

And, the inevitable S model is probably going to be a cute little cube.

Sony have already won, you only have to look at the last consoles they have made and how well they have sold to see things are not going to change, there is room in the market for all of the consoles.
I can't see sony handing away market share they will be prepped but the new xbox is going to be very similar hardware so it's going to come down to the exclusives and price, i feel both ms and sony are going to be selling at bare minimum price to then make profit off the other sales games and accessories and such to make the money.
I might be wrong but I can see sony selling 100mil very easy and ms will be in the same boat as they are now, but in order to ever gain traction you have to compete and ms have been throwing money at the industry for years and after all they have the funds to do so there plan is much longer term.

Or you can Google psx dev kit and it's exactly the same apart from the colour. Or Google the PS2 which again was the same just a different colour.

Most dev boxes are just small pc like things. This? Looks far too finished to be a Dev kit. And besides, it's all we have to go on at the moment.

As I've said before I don't mind it as it is now. Yeah it's bulky but then at least it's different. Which is why I like this Xbox as it's different.

This thing will not fit in my TV stand...

Dimensions even on its side, are way too big, it will look so odd, plus having a huge black box like that would look stupid and hideous.

I cant even stand the site of my subwoofer in plain view. Had to hide that away.

On top of that... the majority of people will be force to have this on its side. And given the xbox log would be at 90 degrees, I think that would trigger me a little bit.

Won't most people just put it next to the TV/on the stand/on the floor? Feels like a waste trying to cram it in a VCR shelf when it has so much less depth than devices that do, it can fit in a lot of places traditional parts can't.

An original PSX dev kit looked nothing like a PS1 tbf Alien, it was only the dev kits made after console release that were a black cased PS.

Most people who game in the bedrooms maybe.
I would not want a thick black box in view of anything. The only things I have on my TV stand, is the TV itself, sound bar which is unfortunately ugly, and two candle holders which extend up either side of the screen. I don't need/want a black box stood next to the TV. As I mentioned, I don't even have the subwoofer in sight. Its behind the sofa so i can feel it when it kicks in.

While I may like my gaming, gaming consoles and peripherals are not on show at all. And not quite sure why you think its a waste to want to have it underneath. Whats your example of "a traditional part that does not fit"

But damn.. that PS1 kit is nothing like the original. Doesnt even look like a PC if I were to add that in the argument.

That's a prototype.

This is a devkit:

The fat PC style thing is what many of the pre-/release games were developed on non the less. Iirc the release cased black version came around '96 for hobbyists, and the light blue version was a CD-R disk burner variant, both after console launch I believe.

And I mean it's a waste space wise to have it where a traditional console would fit, this thing is about half the depth of a normal console, you'd just have loads of space behind it. I'm not giving recommendations I'm just saying a lot of people would probably set it up more likely how people often set up their routers, speakers Alexa's, ect than their disk players.

If I get one I'll probs pop it on top of one of the CD towers I have, vertically.

Doesn't look that bad. I don't even have a "VCR shelf" on my setup so I wouldn't care what form factor it was in if it performs well and quiet.

Look up the blue one. You could buy those. Hirogi? Can't remember. Has a weird name.

Link doesn't work....

I don't mind the look.i just hate the size. Like yeah it's minimalist style is nice, everyone here likes that. But it's so big it sticks out like a sore thumb and that minimalist style just makes it look boring.

Works for me *shrug*

I am just hoping it has full keyboard and mouse support in all games and can achieve at least 60fps or more in all games.

At that point I will struggle to see the need for a pc to be honest to just play games on that are multi platform, but the likes of COD, Halo and quite a few others the console should be fine.

I'm glad consoles are finally getting more powerful but unless it gets exclusives that I cannot get on PC, I'll be adding a PS5 next to my rig for those exclusives like God of War, Spiderman etc... plus I'm quite interested in seeing how the PS5 will handle things like load times, Based on the Spiderman presentation, And graphical enhancements of existing PS4 games.

Jebus, that load time in spider man was amazing. I still remember Destiny 1 on Xbox having those Horrible times when you were mounted and racing through the zones.

The argument that you can get the same PC as powerful as a console for the same money will probably die next gen. I don't see anyone being able to build an 8 core Zen 2 with probably a RX5700 level of graphics for $600.

Oh and @Dice. I actually just the other day fully platinumed trophied GOW. What an amazing game. Seriously was one of my favorites this gen.
