To which someone can make an argument that it will lead to faster development and less crunch time. But then someone will respond that this will lead to more time to add additional monetization options. And so on, and so forth.

Which is what most of the developers seem to be doing these days and nVidia and AMD know this, so push the whole render at lower resolution to make you think the games run better than they do.
