Microsoft is working on a Windows 10 "Game Mode"

Well this is going to go swimmingly as always  Sing with me "There may be trouble ahead"!

auto restart? It actually does that? I haven't seen it any on w10 based computer yet(or heard about it from family/friends). I thought that was just a joke people made to bash on Windows:p

Oh please make it postpone the auto restart for updates, please microsoft PLEASE

I'll be honest, I don't remember the last time I have had a reboot when I did not want one.

It usually just waits until I shut down to update.

It is really annoying to have your game minimize to let you know there are updates available. I have the windows update service disabled.

I'm not expecting much with a game mode. They'd probably do something stupid like only allow it with games purchased through the Windows Store or something.

It does, but only after waiting a fairly long time. Win10 schedules restarts/updates for off-peak hours (when it notices you use your PC less), but won't interrupt what you're doing should you be busy when these hours roll around.

The exception is "high priority" updates, which will skip the restart a few times if it notices you're busy, but will eventually force a non-delayable shutdown so that it can install.

Personally I can't say I've found it all that annoying. The updates don't take as long to install as they used to so you're usually back up and running 2 minutes later anyway.

I've only had it once, it was for the anniversary update, but other than that not really, unless you never restart you pc then it will force you to restart eventually.

Game mode just sounds like another way for Microsoft to push store onto people and with some features were "presented" like cortana, I am getting closer and closer to just go back to 8.1

This will probably be like Razers Cortex software that lets you shutdown nearly every background process for better game performance.

How much can we bet that this will only work with Windows Store games ? ^_^

Thanks for information. Wasn't aware of that.
Makes sense though, as I'm always busy on the computer, which explains why it never restarted on me(when I don't have it disabled of course)

It'll probably be for Store games only. Over time it should expand upon that.

Yeah the autorestart happens, they of course warn you and you can program your restart to happen in the next 5 days. Sometimes though you fail to see the warning and the OS restarts...
It has happened to me once... I left eclipse open as I was writing some code but gf wanted me to go get her ice-cream... Well I came home and windows had restarted...

You can be sure that it is only in Microsoft's interest else they would not do it. I am still more than happy to have made the switch to Linux although I do occasionally boot into windows for some of my gaming, thankfully for the most part I do not need to.

you can alter that you know. Same with Auto Updates, you can't stop Windows from checking for but you can change the Automatic updating, shutting down, restarting and the popup about new updates being available as a result the just make it hard for anyone who doesn't know how or cbf to use google.

It's a MAJOR pain in the arse - my workstation with several virtual machines running on it, automatically restarts, and I've tried a lot of tricks to stop it from happening - disabled windows update service, edited registry database etc, and it still restarts automatically!

One would think that Windows 10 Pro users would have the "privilege" to disable such a thing, but alas, only Windows 10 server editions seem to have that... :(

There's an easy fix for that. Just restart the damn thing when you notice it wants to, no more 'nice surprises' ;)

On the other hand you can actually set a postponement in Windows Update, when an update is ready to restart the PC.

Then your best option would probably be to disable automatic update completely, which if I recall you can. Just update manually once in awhile. I do get it, it's annoying but there are workarounds unless you're just too lazy :)

I wish it was as easy as that - I do restart it whenever I get the pop up, but more often than not, those popups must appear out of office hours, and it automatically schedules the restarts without me noticing, so the next time I get to the PC, it has restarted without my consent.

I have tried to disable automatic updates, but it doesn't seem to actually work!

I bet it won't support Vsync, or non 'windowed-full-screen' mode stuff, or Sli.. and of course, it'l only be windows store stuff.
Y'know like the 'games' stuff that Windows 10 has already put-out.. crap basically.
