REDMOND, Wash. — Aug. 23, 2013 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer has decided to retire as CEO within the next 12 months, upon the completion of a process to choose his successor. In the meantime, Ballmer will continue as CEO and will lead Microsoft through the next steps of its transformation to a devices and services company that empowers people for the activities they value most.

Hey everyone. My first post. Found your site (obviously) via TTL on youtube.

My question regarding this post is "Who will replace Ballmer?"
And most importantly - Will Windows/MS survive? It's just a firm who make operating systems. Yes, the business world is temporarily locked in, however, like apple, their talisman has gone.
I'm a gamer. Totally. I am locked in to DX3D. But I just about remember the other version. And that ran faster.

lmfao
that will be an awkward retirement party, must be so demoralizing to know that you alone are the reason for the value of your company to sink by 10%.

They're so much better off without him... Look for old videos of him commenting on the release of the iPhone or Android OS and a bunch of other successful products. He seemed to always think they didn't pose a threat to MS. What a silly man.
Just an example or two:

+1

He was originally hired by Microsoft for his sales skills, unfortunately this does not help much when developing/looking for new cutting edge technology.
