It's a sad state of affairs, but it's what happens when they have no profit motive to keep Windows snappy.
It's aggrivating that even top of the line PCs can feel sluggish becouse of Windows...

This is why I'm slowly migrating to Linux, I know everyone does spying but I'd like to mitigate it where possible as it makes me very uncomfortable.

There is a lot of talk about Windows 12 and about it being delayed. Funnily enough, Nvidia is reportedly blaming Microsoft for the delay of its N1 chips, though there are reports of silicon issues there too.
I think Microsoft wanted to go all-in with AI, but has now realized that AI isn't the selling point that they thought it was. That might be making them rethink Windows 12. Hopefully it means that it will be a more responsive OS. IE, the kind of OS that day-to-day users actually want.

I think Microsoft should start a Clear Windows initiative akin to Intel Clear Linux. Make it a fork of Windows that's open source and stripped down to essentials. That's like asking for the CEO to make less money. But alas one can dream.

I think the future of Xbox and rise of SteamOS has started to force Microsoft to clean up Windows. There's a reason why we are seeing the "Xbox Full Screen Experience" come with the ROG Xbox Ally and this new performance focus for Windows outside of gaming.
Now that alternatives are becoming available, Microsoft is in a position where it can lose market share. All we need is a good desktop version of SteamOS and some gamers will jump ship.

This should be relatively easy to do. Just remove all the bloatware and telemetry and let people take ownership of their freaking OS.
These people couldn't make a coherent UI for the past 10 years and they keep reinventing the start menu, making it worse every time. I'm supposed to believe that they're going to fix the sluggishness by relying on user feedback?

The spyware/telemetry though brings in a lot of money for them as they sell the info off to data brokers.
