Metro Last Light and PhysX

So I have been playing the new Metro game for 2 hours now and the game is loads of fun. Not nearly as scary as the first but still fun. But this is not a review rather a slight problem I am having.

Metro 2033 was famous for being VERY un-optimized, and I think Last Light followed suite. I have 2 gtx680 in SLi and a 2500k at 4.6ghz, so my computer has the balls but some odd issues arise when playing with PhysX.

I get average 70+ FPS in game and with PhysX I get about 60+ BUT that 60+ looks like 20 FPS. Everything that does NOT use PhysX in game runs at 60+ while other parts that use the PhysX run at 20 or lower FPS. What could cause this?

I'd keep an eye on nVidia drivers over the next few weeks, I imagine it's just that it needs a beta driver or something mate. Brand new games like this are always a bit funny for a month or so after release

I hope. DAM this game is fun though, I just hope it doesn't keep up with the terrible "4A" games trend.

i got it preloaded on steam doesn't release till friday in the uk i bought it and got metro 2033 original free + all the limited edition content for last light gonna play the original till last light releases over here

The game is amazing.

Also I downloaded the new Beta drivers and the same thing. It seems that just the smoke PhysX has the issues. It is the EXACT same kind of stutter Planetside 2 has with PhysX enabled. Which leads me to believe PhysX was poorly implemented.

Try this dude.

Go to your nvidia control panel. Then to Configure sli, surround, physx. Then change physx settings from automatic to one of your gpus. I had a similar issue with Mafia 2 where the game plays in extreme slow motion but the frame rate was fine.

I think the issue is the game makes the cpu the processor for physx and it is not fast enough to cope and thus brings the game speed down.

Let me know if that works.

It was already set to automatic and it picked GPU 2. I also tried GPU 1 and no dice. Again every PhysX effect works fine except smoke.

Slightly off topic, do you think the game will run well for me? Resoulution is 1920x1200 and my specs are a GTX670 Overclocked and an i7 2600K 4.6GHz. You have similar specs to me so just wondering before I go out and get it...

I was playing earlier on a i5 3570k @ 4.4GHz and a 670 getting 90+ fps with everything maxed out besides the AA option and physx

this my mate stateside has the exact same setup as me and he had issues had to manually install physx and then reboot his system before the game would even start his is a 3570k @ 4.2 with amd 7950.

he telling me at 1920x1200 res he is getting 85fps with AAA set in the aa option everything else maxxed he had to disable physx in game because with it on basicly cut his fps in half ill find out if i have the same issue on friday...

im only at 1920x1080p and also im at 4.4ghz only difference between our systems really is case and ram he uses corsair ram i have gskill...

Wow just ran the game,

Lol Really don't recommend this for Radeon users ATM, Drivers need to be optimized for it first. Massive lighting corruption everywhere and there are points in the game where it used only 20% or less of the GPU.. LOL

The benchmark for me is broken. It just flashes yellow and crap. Also I am still having the same PhysX issue.

This may sound a little basic but have you tried wiping the graphics drivers and installing it fresh ? might be worth a shot, you never know I guess

Plays much smoother imo, the first one wasn't very well optomised so that sounds about right if you play on DX11

Im playing at 1080p, Quality - Very High, SSAA - off, Tessellation - Very High

I had fraps on for the first wee while and never saw it go below 40, about 70fps most of the time. Had it off since then but fps for me anyway seem completely smooth.

Man I just looked at some screen shots for this game and a strange tent appeared in my jogging bottoms.

The game has received half decent reviews too, so if my board comes back next week I may just have to treat myself to this.
