4A Games and Deep Silver are bringing the iconic Metro series to the next generation. METRO REDUX features fully re-mastered and improved versions of both METRO 2033 and METRO: LAST LIGHT, creating the most compelling and beautiful Metro experience ever.

With re-worked next-gen visuals, smooth 60FPS gameplay (on next gen consoles), as well as new and improved content and feature set, METRO REDUX will be much more than a simple HD upgrade.

For the REDUX edition, Metro 2033 has been completely overhauled, rebuilt in the latest and greatest iteration of the 4A Engine which brings all the graphical and gameplay improvements from Metro Last Light to Metro 2033 Redux.

Enjoy completely re-mastered visuals: advanced lighting, dynamic weather, more detailed characters with improved animation, more dynamic destruction and improved smoke, fire and particle effects
Experience radically improved gameplay: advanced enemy AI, improved combat and stealth mechanics, superior weapon handling and more responsive, intuitive controls plus signature features from Last Light such as the atmospheric ‘mask wipe’ mechanic, weapon customization, and silent kills and takedowns

Metro: Last Light Redux has also received a graphical facelift and gameplay improvements that carry across both titles, including new melee animations, and the fan-requested ‘Check Watch’ and ‘Check Inventory’ features and will includes all previously released DLC content for Last light.

With METRO REDUX, players now have the choice to experience both Metro games in a brand new way with the introduction of two unique ‘Play Styles.’

Those who enjoyed the more survival horror oriented gameplay of Metro 2033 can play both 2033 and Last Light campaigns in the ‘Survival’ Play Style, a fraught slow-burn fight for survival with limited resources, deadlier enemy AI, and slower reload speeds.

Fans of the more action oriented gameplay of Metro: Last Light can try the ‘Spartan’ Play Style, providing Artyom with a powerful set of combat skills and more plentiful resources.

And now for some good news for us PC brethren, Those who already own Metro 2033 and/ or Last light will receive a discount when purchasing their re-mastered counterparts. So for those looking to replay these great games with their new gameplay modes and more modernized graphics need not pay full price for the privilege.

Only Steam, Metro owners get a special discount to upgrade to the new Redux versions:
Metro 2033 owners can upgrade to Metro 2033 Redux for 50% off, and get 25% off the Metro Redux bundle.
Metro: Last Light owners can upgrade to Metro: Last Light Redux for 50% off, and also get 25% off the Metro Redux bundle.
Owners of both Metro games get 50% off the Metro Redux bundle.

So what are my opinions on this, well i think it is great to see a game get a "HD remake" and not just get a resolution upgrade and a few new textures but also brand new game modes and experiences.

It is also great to see that many of us PC users will also get a discount when purchasing these new versions, provided you have already purchased their older counterparts. Many of us could argue that Last Light is not much more than a year old, but the prospect of regaining the "survival" aspects of the Original game may be worth the price for some.

Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux are scheduled for release this Summer on Next Gen (now current Gen) Consoles and Windows PC, with a dedicated Linux and SteamOS version will be release later in the year.

Here's hoping they've done something about the gas masks in 2033, they broke far to easily and the damn save points always caught you when they broke so if you had to restart there wasn't a replacement for miles around.

They have said that they have changed the gas mask mechanics, but all i know so far is that the mask wipe mechanic was added from last light.

They seem to be taking this remake seriously, they say they have been working on a lot of complaints about both games and have tried to address them as fully as possible.

Well I might have to get it anyway :) why not.

But for now S.T.A.L.K.E.R Lost Alpha to play and review, I've been really looking forward to this.

I really enjoyed both Metros, particularly the 1st one. It's definitely one of the best single player FPS experiences out there IMO.

I was planning on playing through them again. Holding off and waiting for the new Redux versions now might be the thing to do.

I might get the Metro 2033 Redux, I didn't like Last Light that much so I don't think i'll bother getting the Redux version of that.

I'm tempted by both TBH, but i wonder if TTL will use 2033 Redux for benchmarking? For old times sake.

Last Light with survivor mode might be interesting, it could improve my opinion of that game because i felt like i wasn't a strapped for ammo as i was with 2033. Last Light is a good game, but it didn't play like the original IMO.

Might be worth looking at, I got Last Light free as a PS Subscriber a few months ago but wasn't to impressed by the visuals, I'll keep an eye on this.

I have Metro 2033 on Steam but never played it, tried it a while ago but never really gave it much time so might have to give it a try.

Shame this couldn't be done with a smaller "Paid Upgrade" patch for those of us who already own both games.

That is kinda what they are doing, 50% off isn't bad. I certainly think an £8 upgrade for the original metro is OK.

Last Light Redux however, I'm not sold. The survivor mode interests me but the game is not much more than a year old.
