metal tape in laptops

Going to be rebuilding the ibook once the new HDD appears.

Just a quick question.

There is a few strips of metal tape used around the ibook. It is not the easiest stuff to peel back without tearing it.

Would aluminum duct tape from ye old DIY store do the job at replacing it?

It is mostly intact but i'd rather make sure its all in good order and it doesnt die on me through assembly error

Pretty sure that metal tape is copper shielding tape, if it is then it'll be connecting different metal shielding plates together to reduce interference and help with grounding.

If you want to replace it you'll need to find conductive shielding tape. I know they sell it at Maplins if theres one near you. Best of luck with the 'book!

Ah right yeah it could have been conductive aluminium tape. That copper tape should definitely do the trick though, if anything it'd be better than Alu.

The tape is mainly for stopping interference like i said, and the ibook should run fine without it, but for the sake of putting it together 'properly', its probably best to replace the tape.

I checked the stuff out at maplin and it states it does not have a conductive adhesive!!

Ubber-suck !!

Any ideas where i can get good stuff from?
