Memory timings and gfx cards

Would tightening ram timings lead to a drop in score in 3DMark06? Does it have a negative effect on gfx card preformance?

Urm, as far as i can see it shouldn't effect the graphics performance at all. And the real world performance difference between the timings (Bar 1t and 2t) have such a tiny, tiny impact that as long as theyre not stupidly loose you wont notice a difference.

If you've experienced a drop i would think it would just be down too the differences in each 3D mark run. They dont come out identical each time. Ive seen them differ 50-100 points on the exact same machine.

Well its gone from hitting around 4200 on the 1st section to 3800 and about 4000 on the 2nd to about 3800 also.

Might try uninstalling Ntune.. Seemed to happen not long after I installed it.

Anyway so with my timings at 4-4-4-15-2T it shouldn't have any major noticable negative effect at all?

If you lossen the timings of our graphics card ram, then you may have more success in ocing the memory of the graphics card. I found that out on a 6800nu.

How do you go about doing that? :eh:

Naaaa i don't wanna go getting into all that.. I just want the pretty 4200 / 4000 scores back.. With my new timings it would push me over the 9700 mark on overall score.

Yep it is, if ur going to do it make sure you have another graphics card around just incase.

And that be the reason why I won't dare do it to my 8800! :p

BOOOOM! And Tox crys..

Ok so I tried oc'in the gfx card again at lunch time and left it to benchmark as went back to work (was running a little late) and got this

How annoying can you get?? Soooooo close!!

Thats a very respectable score matey! :)

Thank ya :)

First time i've overclocked anything.. Think i've done ok really. Been reading a lot about it and been managing to squeeze a little more out of it here and there. I know the CPU has more to give but at 3.4ghz with my Arctic Cooling FP7 it get a little warm. Also its a good blend at the mo with the RAM timings.. Had the CPU and RAM burning in Orthos all night for 8 hours or so and no erros so i'm taking it as stable.

The scores I compared with on the 3DMark comparison thingamy were either un or low overclocked quads or e6600's up at 3.5 - 3.7 ghz so well happy.

Would have just been nice to hit the 10,000 though :)

Maybe i'll had one or two more mhz to the gfx card.

Ok so added those couple more mhz and got it :)

I can now stop with all this tinkering and actually enjoy this computer. I haven't even seen a game in it yet
