Mayhems Coolant

Curious, i heard if using Mayhems Coolant specifically the Pastels type.. i assume Nebula Blue is included in this one, it will not work properly with water-cooling setups where you are using a Pump/Res combo, but requires the pump to be separate from the reservoir due to clogging issues

Is this true? Care to shed any light on this?

I've never heard that you can't use them with a pump-res combo. I don't see why that would be true given the fact that whether you have them separate or not they're still connected, by tube or otherwise.

What's probably more important is that the colour of Pastel is notorious for changing after a couple of months, giving very undesirable results, as I'm sure people here will point out.

ahh i've heard of incidents where it leaves residue in the system.. mainly seems to occur if using red colours.

Never used Mayhems before. Last one i remember using was Fesers when it first came out

My advice would be to stick to clear coolant and get coloured tubing....I've learnt my lesson as far as coloured coolant is concerned.

I seem to remember TTL having his Mayhems coolant changing colour too, his black coolant went brown in orca?

Stick to clear coolant. The aurora stuff is only for show and can/will clog stuff, pastels change colours and sounds like most of them end up going brown for "1 reason or another" (putting it nicely)

Yeah but Im told thats my fault......

agh thanks for the heads up guys.. i'll stick with what i've always used in the past (EK or Feser coolant).

I just liked the funky colour of Mayhems Nebula Blue or Galaxy Purple.. shame it can't be used as a normal cooling setup

I'm looking forward to the new Primochill coolant, from what I've seen it looks like they've got a pastel looking line, but only brighter colours.

Lets hope it doesn't eat tubing like Mayhems Pastel does.

I mean err... let's hope we don't all screw up how we've made watercooling loops (for 10+ years) and break a coolant with tubing we've used for 7+ years without issue, clouding or reacting with anything else, because it's totally our fault... or y'know the tube's fault (that's rated to be so good and so non-reactive, it's used in the friggin' food industry ffs)

I can't comment on Mayhems specifically (I haven't used them yet), but I can say that softline tubing, generally, will stain if you are using dyes. Red in particular is notorious for this.

I have no knowledge of the effect of dye on acrylic tubing.

Thats anything with dye in though.... thats just normal over a long period. If you want intense colour that means a lot of dye and quicker staining. Just replace your hose and clean every 6 months.

The Mayhems pastels react with tygon tubing, something in the formula turns the tubing green. I don't think anything will affect hard acrylic tubing.

Iv'e got a feeling XSPC hose is affecting pastel again. I couldn't get any Primochill Pro LRT, , for my rebuild so I had to use XCPC, and within a day, my sunset yellow, has turned into sunset milky rust.. It was lucky I bought a couple of extra ltrs, of pure, and some concentrate, along with a quick trip to my local garden center marine aquarium supplier and picked up some emergency hose.

Comparing £2.49 aquarium hose to £5.00 Primoochill, they look identical, from, the blue tint to the cut, to wall thickness, and feel. Even oddly the smell. And so far 2 days of no reaction or change in any way.
