Maximus Formula Problem "INIT ROM"

Ok so I've just been working on my rig, but not anything major. Changed PSU and removed my RAM from my loop.

Anyway, just tried to turn it back on and everything powers up and the 295 has its green light on for all is go but I get nothing on my screen.

I plugged in the old Asus LCD Post thingamy and it gets stuck on INIT ROM. Anyone have any experience of this problem or what it means?? Google doesn't really bring back anything definitive.

I've tried swapping my two sticks of RAM in various slots and unplugging the DVD/RW drive as well as removing the sound card. I've also swapped the GFX card just incase.

INIT ROM definitely isn't the CPU is it? I mean it starts and doesn't shut off... With the CPU dead the PC would just turn off wouldn't it?

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp :)

Yup, but I've just done it the remove battery for a few mins way and I know it worked as all my mobo voltage lights are back to green.

Anyway removing the battery resovled the INIT ROM issue but it just moved on to CMOS ERR instead.

Anything on the ol CMOS ERR?

Maybe now it's reset, the RAM not getting enough voltage??

My Blitz Formula does this seldomly and the removal of one stick of RAM usually clears things up. I can then get into the BIOS and reconfigure everything

I had this problem on my rampage, but i had put the ram in wrong!

Also my HD sata cables were busted.

Dunno if that helps

Well like I said, I got rid of the first error with a CMOS reset but then came the CMOS error.

I tried 1GB stick of my Dad's 800MHz OCZ Platinum RAM as that worked from cleared CMOS before, but it wouldn't boot with it. Anyway I grabbed a PCI GFX card today from work and a non brand low power stick of 800MHz RAM (didn't think that would make a difference).

First thing I did when I got home as it was the easiest to do was plug the stick of RAM I brought home in. Turned it on and it bloody worked!!

:D

Changed all my stuff back to normal and it's back up and running again.

No idea at all why it crapped out in the first place though :S

I had same problem. After tried configured system to run Kingston Hyper X DDR2 1066.

My PC is not running as the same. I got "INIT ROM" message. How you resolve this problem?

I had this, but it was my Optical Drive not being plugged in, that motherboard is very strange! I just don't even plug that screen is now, just demoralises me and makes me think I am going to see INIT CPU soon. Soon as you see that, start crying

As mentioned above, removing the motherboard battery for 5 - 10 mins and making sure all of the power was out of the system got rid of my INIT ROM problem but just left me with a CMOS ERR which was nice.

Yeah I had never used it before then.. Stayed in its lil plastic bag for months until I couldn't get it to boot. Was handy in that sense, but it's back in the mobo box now until something else goes t1ts up again.

Me too! Received CMOS ERR message after removed power supply. I don't want contact ASUS for tech support. I never get straight answer from them due to the "Over Clocking" issue. They will not be resposible for it. This mean my motherboard is toasted?

Any member know this problem? If so, please let me know. I thank you in advance.

Have you got any low powered RAM you can use to boot with? It could be the problem with the voltages resetting too low when the CMOS was reset. Or if you haven't reset the CMOS fully, then you should try that by removing the battery for 10 mins or so and making sure there is no poewr in the board by making sure the green light goes off.

Can you run BIOS setup? Try to flash the llastest BIOS or force flash to Rampage Formula. or check that make sure you ain't knock the clear CMOS on the board. Or find another gfx card to test. Hope it help ;)

Cmos err

I had removed power supply, graphic card, RAM sticks for 15 minutes.

Also, I replaced Litium motherboard battery. The result reamin the same.

"CMOS ERR". Last resort, I'll get new RAMS and install it. I'll post the result.

You have a great weekend.
