Maplin has gone into administration - 2,500 jobs at risk

Yeah I get where the issue lies if the customer has no idea either, I was just trying to get a better understanding of why a knowledgeable person would refuse to buy hardware there based on the limited experience of the sales team.

Last week I decided to quit tobacco and go to Vaping. So I did tons of research online "youtube vids etc" and I came across this guy Les Pickin "Vape It With Les" is his channel and watched some vids. Then I joined his FB group for advice and tbh I was blown away by the friendly and knowledegable response I got. He recommended a kit to me and I ordered it the next day with a Rebuildable RBA deck with some 18650 batteries from him.

I could have bought all of this from Amazon a lot cheaper but I would not have the knowledge of how to make my own coils. A set of 3 coils for my Tank is £10 as opposed to 5p each if you buy the wire and make them yourself. In the long run this guy has saved me money even though he is a small business and sell the coils himself. Thats what I call customer service

I went into Maplin 4 years ago after a Razer Blackwidow mech keyboard and although I knew about the product all the salesman could say to me is "The buttons feel nice to press Sir" and nothing about the actual functions of the keyboard. The difference is complete night and day to me

Maybe it's because I grew up when town centres were bustling on a Saturday, there was no interwebs to do some research . You had to go into a shop and ask.
I got bread from my local bakery and meat from my local butcher etc and we were all on 1st name terms and I found the customer experience much nicer. I would rather give my money to a small business where I can as that goes to providing for that persons family not some corporate fat cat. but hey i'm getting a grumpy old fudger :p

PC world have never been experts at anything they just prey on the people that don't know anything.

I recall having a literal argument with a salesmen in there about an iMac, he was insistent that they don't get hot at the back (anyone that's used an iMac has seen the heat coming out the top visibly), and that the aluminum shell isn't part of the heat-sinking and heat dissipation designed into the item itself.. he was quite rude about it... I just walked out, haven't been back since. It's a shame really because if the staff and sales guys were educated instead of just knee jerky "oh no it doesn't get hot", I think they'd do far better with enthusiasts, which to me seems like where the money is?
