Manhunt 2 to be released soon

cant see what all the fuss is about,Its only the same as you see in a film.but because it is a "game" some people think that it is going to be played by some 6 year old mario genius so that instantly makes it bad. After all it does carry an 18 cert so no 6 year old should get there hands on it anyway.

I loved the first manhunt on my ps2 the things you could do with a plastic bag....

But the fact is that 6 year olds do end up playing it. I mean take a look at CoD4, the certificate is 16 and everyone playing seems to be 11.

6 year olds still see 18 rated films... What can ya do? Ban everything?

Yes =P. I like gaming but there's no need for a game where you can disembowel someone with a crowbar, it's just OTT.

I agree with this really

I think some games are ok and seem to have limits.

It's a shame certain games developers try to push for more and more gore in games which will undoubtedly be played by people under 18. I'd almost go as far to say that the majority of the people who play it will be under 18.

When the whole basis of the game is killing people in graphically gruesome ways, it should be banned without question.

The whole selling point seems to be the idea of killing people graphically (should kids/people be actively thinking about this, let alone seeing and acting this out?), the fact it was banned and also the fact it is 18cert (which will lead to under 18's trying their hardest to get it)

Personally i dont think anyone has a foot to stand on when it comes to banning a game. I mean, spend 5 min on google and you can find a vid of someone being beheaded, or i remember seeing a fail suicide bombing attempt and watching the man die whilst everyone laughed and kicked his torn limbs around.

There worse things out there than a computer game so just let it be released.

On the side a little, wasnt it originally banned due to someone chopping off their mates head with a level 2 meat cleaver kill??? :D

I cant believe this is even being discussed.

You dont have to go out and buy the game. Therefore, for those of us who like it then why not buy it?

Also, look at this, you have games like CoD 4 and Half Life 2, all FPS'er games. They involve killing and shooting things, some games even allow you to shoot birds out of the sky, or in FEAR you can kill the rats that run around, what you going to do, ban the game due to it being cruel to animals?

That is totally different.

Shooting people is a bit different to decapitating them or suffocation etc.

i disagree. killing is killing. Im leaving this thread well alone. This could end up being a heated debate.

Plus. ITS ONLY A GAME!!!

In the words of the legend that is:

'...But then you have games like Manhunt. Which not only have the player viscously maim other human beings with a variety of household objects. But also provides up-close and detailed demonstrations on how to achieve the most horrific results...'

EQs right, normal games are far removed form the reality of shooting people. Where as manhunt may as well have been called 'Kill horribly: A how to.'

I dont care, as far as im concerned, i shall be buying the game and playing it like i do every other.

I think we should change the subject here to something along the line of:

"Can you detach yourself from what you see in games to what you do in reality? if not, you shouldnt play games"

To me i wouldnt care less how graphic it was - iv seen horrors etc. which are a hell of a lot more graphic but it gets a little twisted where its turned into a game (game: a way of having fun)

I mean its like the film "Hostel/Hostel 2" into a game. I think its kinda "are the graphics realistically life like"

Mortal kombat has being doing this kinda thing for real but it does uphold the element of unrealism of a game

Havent played manhunt but it isnt exactly a sci fi so its leaning definately towards the realism side of things.

Perhaps 100% hunting down and killing with everyday items is a bit far but have you seen GTA? - gotta admit thats fun but i suppose it again isnt too realistic

I think you should have a mental assessment before being eligible for games like this - to stop your local neighbourhood looney blaming mass murder on a game

haha i love this debate..

any manhunt haters.. i ask you this?

did you like gears of war? (answer probably yes)

that involved cutting people in half from their shoulder to hip.. with a chainsaw. and you cheer for the delight.

do you like counterstrike? (answer more than likely as not, yes)

shooting people in the head is promoted and rewarded, and you cheer when you do so.

do you like fps games? (most likely answer = yes)

you shoot, stab, blow up, decapitate, mutilate, headshot, cut, slice, kill, kill and KILL.. and are rewarded for the pleassure, but you're only satisfied when its viewed in higher resolution, with crisper textures, with realistic effects, blood, physics simulations and all the time you want more, you want better...

so don't hit on something like this because when all said and done this is what the people.. WANT. this is no different to any other game out there, except maybe it brings all the violence, bloodshed, murder and disgust into one, undeniably grotesque game.

but it will sell, and so will every other game that involves killing. we can't do it for real, but boy damn do we like it in some alternate universe where killing and maiming people is rewarded with cheers and kudos.

we live in a world where this is commonplace now so just.. get used to it.

totally agree

As ham said, FPS games are completely different.

They are in a completely different mindset and take a different view. There is a difference between shooting someone at range and their body hitting the floor & decapitating or suffocating someone while they die slowly in agony.

Also taking what mrapoc said into account about mental issues.

If you enjoy watching people in pain, being tortured or being killed, maybe you should be questioning why ?

I also feel sub-concious decisions and views come into account where these games are concerned.

There's a massive difference between the effects of movies and the effects of games. You can watch a movie a few times eventually it gets boring, you can play on a good map for ages though, just an example. It's the difference of watching someone do something vs. controlling what someone is doing yourself.
