Making my system quite

I was wondering is there a way to make my current system more quite without effecting my cooling performance? Is there some way I can insulate my case without effecting air flow?

I have a NZXT Tempest EVO case

my cooler is a zalman 10x extreme

I would recommend you replace your current fans with Noctua ones, a little pricey but its an easy way to make a big noise difference, and maybe a Noctua NH D14 cpu cooler if you can stretch to it.

Take a look at Enermax fans with the "twister" maglev-like bearing. I got one for free with an Enermax PSU and it convinced me to try other Enermax fans. I have my fans running at lower rpm and so the loudest and most annoying part of my PC is the harddrive (WD Caviar Black) even when idle. You may also want to observe how much noise your harddrive makes while idle.

removing fan guards and anything else you dont need that the air gets sucked thru can reduce noise. my case used to kind of whistle untill i cut away the bits of plastic and metal i didnt need in the way of the fans, now its just a low whoosh of air blowing thru it. the level might not of changed but the sound it makes is much nicer to live with.

you can also do this:

• fit rubber (or similar) washers between all contact points. this will dampen vibrations throughout.
  
• where possible - exchange 120mm fans for 140mm equivalents.
  
• use 5400rpm drives instead of faster one's (eg: WD caviar green).
  
• use a front panel fan controller (fans do not need to be on full-whack when the system is not at overclocked settings).
  
• replace case feet for rubber equivalents
