Making Changes

OK so long story short I dropped my 2600K and UD7 a while back for a couple reasons and now I kick myself. So Uncle Sam is being generous to me this year with my tax refund so I'm going to make some changes. First off I'm changing from soft tubing to rigid, and tiding up my rig. Secondly I'm considering dropping my Crosshair V Formula-Z and 9370 and going back Intel. Nothing really wrong with the 9370 but I can feel the difference between the brands. Really considering 2011 for its dual x16 pci-e advantage (yes I know real world there no difference between dual x8 and dual x16) But I've always ran these 7970's on x16 slots lol. I already have 4x4Gb 1866 memory so quad channel wont be an issue. But I was wondering y'all thoughts on 2011 vs 1150 (yes i know if I go 1150 it'll be dual x8) Also what 2011 or 1150 board is king atm. Done a fair bit of research already but still not decided.

Thanks

Similar boat mate, be interesting what you decide. I'm still humming along with a 2600K at 4.6GHz in a P67 with 2 670 4Gb's (about to add a 3rd, long story). I been looking for medicine to cure my current bout of upgraditise, but the cure may be the kill. I've researched and read, but haven't came to a decision other than I'm upgrading for the sake of upgrading. Hasn't stopped me before :).

The whole x2 x16 PCIE lane thing gets me too. They say it adds very little, yet I can't help wondering about latency and that little last bit of performance. You can get as I'm sure you'll know, 1150 Z87 motherboards with x16/x16, but they are expensive; the MSI XPower doesn't even fit in my case, or it may have been a winner.

Good luck!

Haswell-E comes out towards the end of the year if you want the newer boards that will come along with it. Will be a new socket/chipset. If 1150 is anything to go buy then Haswell-E will be very good indeed. Its rumored to support DDR4 ram as well which will cost a lot but if you sold your AMD based rig i'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

If you want to do it now then i vote for 1150. 2011 is great but for games the benefit is not there yet for more cores.

Not sold on my AMD at all lol thats the issue its ok and games great but some things I can just feel the difference between the brands. I think for now I'm going to stick with it, and just buy fans to match the red black scheme I'm in atm. Was trying to convince myself it'd be better to buy a new cpu/board then replace 13 17$ fans lol I might just get non led fans this go round and use led lights to show it off. This will alleviate my current funk lol of red/black board with blue led fans lol.

And Haswell-E is going to carry a hefty premium for DDR4 and cpu's since there the extreme line lol may just reevaluate 1150 I like my blue fans :D

why the GD65 not that I'm opposed just wondering why the support for it. I'm a big Gigabyte fan but I'm researching the GD65 atm.

It's probably still one of the best Z87 boards out there ATM what with it's reliability being the highest of all the manufacturers also what is on the board for what it costs it's just really hard to beat and at it's launch it won ther best in show and also got some award from a German company that flogged the shit out of it under very high temps and they concluded that it would last for 40 years! So yes probably a good buy and if I had the money today to upgrade it would be in my machine by the end of the week!:D

yeah after researching it some its in my cart at Newegg along with a 4770K. Thats about 530$ USD, another 500ish in my cart at Performance PC's for the rigid tubing fittings new rez fans and the kits needed to do proper bends on the rigid with a heat gun. I'm going with Monsoon's Rev 2 rez I really liked my old one was super easy to bleed and has the ability of dual loops from one rez if I go that way. I went with all black Spectre Pro PWM's this wa no matter what color scheme I change to I wont have to change fans again lol as these bad boys are 17$ each thats 220$ in fans alone :( . Going with Blood red tubing to match the red on the GD65. And I'll add some white leds in to hi-lite it all up. This will be super easy with the Enthoo Primo's led on/off option, I currently have the inner fans hooked to it so I can turn them on and off as I choose. With all this I'm still only hitting a tad over half my return :) so I'll have some left over for other toys if I choose.

Sounds like it's going to be FANTASTIC when it's finished good luck and enjoy your build although you have got to post some pics for us when it's all done cause i'd really like to see it!

will do, only reason there no current pics of it is the tubing looks ghetto in there and I'm not proud of it. lol Its hard to make dual loops look good sometimes and since I went with the known space heater 9370 I made the cpu loop on my 420 and 280mm rads and the gpus are on my monsta 240
