Okay guys so im here for some of you guys to poke some holes in my build, let me know if anything has compatibility issues or any other commonly known faults.

Any and all feedback is appreciated, thanks :)

Intel Core i7 3820, S 2011, Sandy Bridge-E, Quad Core, 3.6GHz, 10MB Cache, 130W Overclocked to 4.3ghz

16GB (4x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance LP Jet Black, PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC,

Asus Sabertooth X79, Intel X79, S 2011, DDR3, SATA III - 6Gb/s

Corsair H100 Hydro Series Extreme Performance CPU cooler

2GB Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 3X, 28nm, PCIe 3.0 (x16), 6008MHz GDDR5, GPU 980MHz, Boost 1058MHz, Cores 1344

240GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD, 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s, SandForce 2281, Read 525Mb/s, Write 500Mb/s, 85K IOPS

1TB WD WD10EARX Caviar Green, SATA 6Gb/s, IntelliPower, 64MB Cache, 8ms, Quiet <--UPDATED

Corsair Vengeance C70 High Airflow Gunmetal Black Mid Tower Gaming Case with Side Window USB 3.0 2x120mm

750W Corsair Pro Series Gold AX750, Modular, 90% Eff', 80 PLUS Gold, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Quiet Fan, ATX, PSU

My only main question is the cooler fitting onto the board and if i reference this video i wanted to know what the push pull configuration is.

I have a few questions. You've chosen a 2.5" 500GB Hard Drive. This is for laptops. Why not a 3.5" Disk?

And while the Core i7 3820 is a nice processor I really feel in my personal opinion that if you're going for a Socket 2011 based rig you should be buying a 3930K. Why pay the price premium for an X79 board when you're just going to get the same performance as a 2700K Sandy Bridge rig? Step up to the two extra cores or step down to LGA 1155 in my opinion.

Other than that, nice setup!

Push pull is when you use 4 fans on the radiator of the h100,two on each side in order to improve airflow, although the performance increase isnt huge over the standard 2 fans. other than that i know quite a few people on the forums dont like ocz products as they can be unreliable. Also what are you using the computer for, if is just for gaming you might want to consider a z77 bases system instead.

I cant find any decent 3.5 ssd's on the website im using

www.scan.co.uk

He means a 3.5 inch hard drive not SSD as you can only really get them in 2.5 inch.

There are a few things that need changing though. If it's gaming, you'd be better off going with Ivybridge 3570k and saving money. There will be no difference between that and the 3820 in gaming. Plus you should be able to overclock the Ivybridge better.

The SSD needs changing also - OCZ drives are incredibly unreliable. Get a Crucial M4 instead, should be a similar kind of price.

Also drop to 8gb as gaming doesnt need anymore than 8gb - ever.

Hard Drive wise - due to the big SSD, go for a Western Digital Caviar Green in the size you prefer for storage.

Aha thanks thats 11pm talking i guess.

Right thats the cheapest 240gb ssd on scan atm its going for £133

Im picking a pre clocked bundle because its got a guarantee and i can pay for insurance in case it goes wrong. Now from what a friends told me the 2011 processors have better performance over the first gen (i may be wrong)

The crucial m4 is only another £30 will it make the difference?

whoops didnt even notice thanks ill just grab the 1tb caviar

Dont buy a pre-clocked bundle. The companies just charge you large amounts of money to clock them themselves and so it isnt really worth it IMO. Also the K processors are far better for overclocking than the 8320.

The Crucial M4 performance wise will be the same as the OCZ one you said (ignore the Read and Write speeds, as they dont actually operate at that anyway, so the Crucial is as fast) But the crucial is far more reliable. So yes, especially with an SSD it is definitely worth the extra £30. The OCZ is cheap for a reason mate...

Not too sure about the point of the insurance? It isnt gunna just catch fire or anything, and if it breaks then a warranty will most likely cover it so dont bother with that.

Gaming wise for me, I'd be going 3570k, 8gb Corsair Vengeance, on an MSI GD65 or a Gigabyte UD5. I myself have the ASUS P8Z77 Deluxe with a 3770k, and I think my motherboard is great, but probably not really worth the money over the MSI and the Gigabyte.

Unless you're doing video editing and rendering, there's no benefit whatsoever in getting 2011 over 1155 and even then there's only a benefit if you're getting the 3930k. It's just a waste of money going 2011 for gaming. I personally think the 3820 is a pointless processor, but that's just my thoughts :)

I've got a big enough budget but is an i7 going too high for gaming?
I'm hoping to go with whatever's newest so i'm not upgrading in a years time.

The only difference between the i7 3770k and the i5 3570k is Hyperthreading. Games dont make any use whatsoever of hyperthreading. And so it's pointless to get anything better than a 3570k for gaming. That will be exactly the same story within a year, and probably for another 3 years after that.

Just because you have the budget doesnt mean you have to spend it all :) and especially for a gaming rig doesnt mean you should spend loads on a cpu and x79 motherboard to then take that cash away from something like graphics.

If you tell me your budget I'm more than happy to put a list together for you. And it will be far cheaper than the list you've given with the same gaming performance, if not better

If it is for gaming then getting an ivy bridge cpu is an easy way to save a lot of money and you will not notice the diffrence gaming at all.

Hmm okay then, i have a £1500 budget
I was thinking about going with a sli configuration somehting like dual 670's
also i wanted to throw in a corsair h100 cpu cooler
the corsair c70 case and of course an ssd.
