Mach II in outdoor Environment

I am still having problems with my temps (see my other recent thread) but I had a separate question. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to putting my entire computer in my attic (it a room above my garage that has a floor and roof but is not insulated)? Temps in there are around 30s-40s F compared to about 71F inside. I can run monitor and USB cables to my room right next door. I imagine it would boost performance tremendously. Any thoughts?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Condensation might be a worry depending on how much moisture you get in there, as well as the fire risk should sometime go wrong and you dont spot it.

Would improve your temps though.

If you could wire it up, I imagine that would be quite an improvement! :)

I'd say go for it, maybe test to see how cold it gets though, as you don't want to worry about condensation on cold nights!

If I leave it in there 24/7 and it is constantly in the 40s, is there any reason to be worried about condensation? I have my cpu covered with dielectric grease, are there any other precautions I should take to condensation proof my pc?

It should be ok i think, condensation can only occur when something is colder than ambient, so the only areas you should be worried about condensation would be around the CPU as everything else should be above 5C.

Make sure you have a smoke alarm up there if you are leaving electronics unattended up there.

What do you do when you want to put a dvd into the drive?

By that I mean are you gonna have to walk into another room just to change disc?

With 600gb of storage I dont tend to use cds or dvds all that much. Also, I have a usb hub in my room as well so any usb device will work perfectly. I just want to protect my investment so if there is anything else I need to know please share.
