Low-Profile GPU ?

AFox has a 6850 and a 7850 available.
Prices? Horrendous.

Does anyone know of North American retailers making these products?
Does anyone know of anything comparable?
The best I can come up with is the 7750, which is somewhat disappointing.

I've found evidence of a LP 5770 in circulation, but for the life of me I can't find one. Major bummer, I loved my normal 5770.

Zotac has a LP 650 on its way, but I can't find a price range listing, nor an estimated release date.

Any suggestions? Any information? :)

Please and thanks!

For what kind of usage?

Gaming. I'm not expecting top-tier performance, but it has to run mainstream games smoothly. I'm looking at getting into BF3 LAN tournies.

I'm simply looking for the most powerful LP GPU. I've got 2 slots to work with, and am willing to spend the extra coin for an aftermarket VGA cooler if necessary, although I don't imagine I'd need that with a LP GPU.

PSU and CPU are not bottlenecking factors here.

Point of View GeForce GT 640 would be a option single slot is hard to find ..

Thanks for this suggestion but the 640 does not provide the performance I'm looking for.

why does it need to be LP if you have 2 slots to work with?

Low Profile refers to the width of the expansion slot, rather than the amount of them. My case just so happens to support 2 expansion slots, while only being half the thickness of a normal case. This is relatively common, specifically for HTPC and/or LAN rigs.

single slot means no power .. that's it

I'm not exclusively looking for single-slot cards. Dual-slot is fine, so long as they are low profile.

If anyone has a link to something stronger than the 7750, or the release date/price for the 650, I'd be greatly appreciative!

You're talking about half height cards right? I think people are getting confused because they really aren't so mainstream. They are thinking full height just single slot so you can get more cards in... so LP means not "standard height"... Just trying to throw some clarification in.

Yes, correct. I'm unfamiliar with the term 'half height' in regards to the topic, but yes essentially you are spot-on mate.

Thanks for your input. :)

Sapphire Radeon HD 6670 low profile would be a option .. it's really rare to have low profile dual slot cards.

I really don't think you can run BF3 well (Especially at a competitive level) with a low-profile GPU...
Your best bet would be something like a GT640 or as said before a HD6670 (Sapphire do a nice one)

I recommendet both of them wasn't enough for him .. TO what you're searching does not exsist.

For competitive play, it's often best to turn down graphical settings. No way for your enemy to hide in a bush if your GPU isn't told to render the bush.

But in competitive it's also important to get a constant 60/120FPS... Don't want framerate drops ruining your aim...
I doubt a HD6670 could manage that, even with pretty low settings...
Having said that, nice find with the low-profile HD6850/7850s, if they don't melt under load ~

The 6670/640 are super bad performance tbh, around the 35-40fps mark on low at 1680x res in bf3.

A 7850 brings it all the way up to around 50-60fps on high at 1680x and the 6850 isnt to far behind that at around 45-50 on the same settings.

But being low profile they will probably be underclocked... EDIT: looks like they arent from the afox site unless im way off with remembering stock clocks....

On lower settings the 6850 will probably fit the bill the best even on a slightly underclocked low profile version and should more than easyly sit around 50-60fps on low settings @ 1080x res.

Either way the 6670 and 640 will struggle even on minimum settings tbh if your planning on playing at 1080p, the 6850 SHOULD fit the bill perfectly and the 7850 is allways for the guaranteed 60fps on low an option how ever at around 2x more expensive for the low profile version probably isnt worth it unless you want to 100% have 60fps constant.

I realise low profile cards will not be the bees' knees for performance. That's something I am prepared to ignore. I simply want BF3 to run "good enough".

In my OP I mentioned I was aware of afox's products, but was looking for something stateside/more adequately priced.

I would love to get my hands on one of those cards though! Can't find a used one anywhere. ):
