Low Noise i5 2500k

Hey,

This is more of a question and advice then anything. Basically in my current system I have an i5 2500k (@4.4GHz/1.31v) cooled by a H60 2013.

The problem is the H60 is too loud in my system. My guess is its the pump because its using a noctua NF 12 and the GPU makes no noise when idle and the system fans are on noctua 140mm low noise adapters.

So I wanted to replace this cooler with a nice and quiet CPU cooler (especially at idle). I have a Fractal Design S case so it has plenty of space for the big coolers. Preferably I want it black. This leads to the question. I was looking at the Dark Rock Pro 3 but I wanted to know will it have enough ram clearance to fit and what are your recommendations on coolers. Budget is around £80. I am using Vengence Pro ram. See picture to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Could find any black cooler really if you are replacing the fan?

You could get one of the cryorig coolers. The R1 is all black I think. Or a cheaper silver one but buy the accents as well and make it whatever color you like:)

See I was thinking the Dark Rock Pro 3 but I wanted to know if it fits if so ill buy that. I heard that the cryoigy are good too but people are saying the dark rock is very low in noise at idle. Also I'll leave stock fans (lets sayI got the be quiet, I'll keep on the silentwings as they are good fans) and use the noctua fan as a case fan instead.

EDIT: It will have to support my OC on the CPU by the way

Anyone want to offer there advice on me getting the dark rock pro 3. Basically will it have enough ram clearance and is it suitable for what I need. If not ill look into NBD option

Well personally I like the Cryorig better. More customizable with the addon accents so if your color scheme ever changes you're set:)
Between the two from an objective standpoint, I'd get whichever is cheaper.

I think both the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 3 and the Cryorig R1 Ultimate will have clearance issues.
I believe your RAM is 44mm tall
Cryorig R1 Ultimate says 30 - 35mm clearance (dependant on fan adjustment).
DR Pro 3 doesn't list clearance, but most suggestions for it are between 37 - 44mm but I don't know if that's allowing for the couple of mm your memory will be elevated by the slot.

What motherboard do you have?

If you want quiet go with an air cooler, like Noctua, Phanteks and so many others
Thanks for narrowing it down mate. Yea the notcua are good (not sure about quite) but they are fuggly. Also I have never heard phanteks coolers come up when talking about silence:)

Don't get me wrong, the Cryorig are sexy coolers but like you said it has clerance issues. Maybe the Dark Rock Pro 3 might fit then! My motherboard is an MSI P67A-GD35

Yes I would love to get it but its all about will the ram fit. If so I have the cooler sorted. Also how quiet are these coolers. I would imagine that the big heatsink coolers like the bequiet and R1 are the quieter ones.

Another consideration will be the distance from CPU socket to the RAM slots because of the heatpipes encroaching (assuming of course it's oriented the "normal" way of front to back).

That's why I asked which board you have but I can't seem to find any specs for MSI P67A-GD35.

Other than that I think height clearance is going to be hella tight

Its the MSI P67A GD53 if that helps with corsair vengeance pro blue ddr3 ram.

cryorig has a pdf on their side that you print and fold accordingly and you then see if the cooler will fit or not, I really recommend giving it a shot

I still can't find anything about the distance from centre of socket to the first RAM slot for your board.

I did find a hexus article/review of the DR Pro 3 that says they couldn't use the first slot with Vengeance Pro. 2nd slot was doable if raising the fan slightly, but that was on a Gigabyte board.

How quiet is the Ultimate compared to the DRP3? Its still a fair amount more expensive then the be quiet.

EDIT: I have been watching reviews of the dark rock pro 3 compared to the R1 Ultimate and they seem to be saying that the R1 does cool 1-2 degrees better but is louder (especially with a 2500k which isn't a high heat cpu) I could try and get the dark rock and see what is like off Amazon and return it if it's not good. Also do you guys think I could just about get the ram to fit in there?

Thanks for all the help guys. I bought the R1.

R1 Ultimate or R1 Universal?

Did you print out the pdf "origami" to make sure it fits because on their website for the R1 Ultimate it says
"RAM Height Limit 30 ~ 35 mm ( Fan position adjustable )"
and your RAM is taller than that.

R1 Ultimate. :)

You could always move the fan to the other side if clearance issues are there. Then add the 120mm Noctua fan to the first side if you wanted.
