loud pitch sound comeing from board

hi there i have an Asus Sabetttoh x58 mobo and just today i have started to hear a loud pitch sound coming from the board and it seems as if it comeing from the onboard ethernet port as when i start to dowload something from the web it makes this loud pitch sound however once i take out the ethernet cable the sound goes away then when i put it back in it there again the sound is. The sound is much louder when i try downloaing something i just wanted to know if this is normal and if not should i send it back for RMA

no definitely not normal at all but at least you isolated it. I'd get with the vendor and see if theres anything on thier forums about it and be ready to rma it if necessary.

My board does not do that at all...course it's less than 24 hours old at this point.

That seems weird, however, that it'd be coming from the network controller...there's no "moving parts" so to speak to make a whine unless there's some kind of short or something...

What kind of network speeds are you getting across the controller on download/upload speed? Does it match some of the reviews out there?

Can't think of anything around that area that might be causing the problem...back case fan? (those tend to sit right above the external ports, and the network, if I remember correctly, is the "top" port).

If you find something interesting about it, post back.

it may just be vibration from the area of the IO shield

see if any of the mb fixing screws are loose in that area!!!

i have just switched motherboards out to an old asus a8n-sli amd board in the same case using the same wires and theres no noise coming from this board and also both boards give me my normal upload and download speeds

I would send it to be replaced while the warranty is valid.

Maybe an EMI/grounding issue?

Have you tested the board out of the case?

Does it only happen where there is load? it will probs be the power VRM's like on most GPU's

the sound is quiter when i dont have a browser open but once i open up a browser the sound starts to get louder and then when i go to start a download off steam or buffer a online video like on youtube the sound gets even louder and very noticeable
