Lost piccies!

Being a newer member to site, I've found myself wondering down long forgotten threads from yester year. And it seems that a lot of them have had their pictures lost in time / deleted etc by image hosting, which is a great shame really, as when you see people raving about someones build, but cant see for yourself.. :(

Given enough time, I feel many picture uploads to free image hosting will vanish. Wouldn't it be better to keep all picture hosting in house for oc3d? I know there is an upload service you host http://upload.overclock3d.net/ It just doesnt seem often used. Be nice to think that pictures hosted there now would still be linking in 10 years time!

Couldnt all hosting be done via the upload service? Force use of the service for pictures hosted on these forums? Or is that a tad strict?

Main reason why I do not use the OC3D upload service is because of the lack of ease of use. My own hosting site (monkey.fayntic.com, hosted at a friend's server 100mbit and all that ****), has ftp support making uploading and managing way easier.

Might be a nice idea to make an FTP photogallery for every member actively posting without an expiration date or something?

it might be nice to have that built into the part where you post a reply. with the bold and italics and underline and all that formatting stuff above my text right now :P if some one add a icon which will allow us to upload a picture from there it can encourage people to use the oc3d uploading features :D

I can't see how clicking 'Bowse', navigating to your picture, clicking ok, then upload isn't user friendly...

The only problem with the OC3D uploader is file management isn't there any more.

The pics that are missing are either:

from people's own hosting (usually photobucket or imageshack), or from the old SysXtreme hosting which all members were warned about and all of us mods had to go round re-uploading the stickies.

The image upload facility on the forum is easy, free and permanent

Just use the advanced posting control panel and attach a file....

Ninja edit: as shown :D

Ninja edit II: I love that picture...it was taken at my local tesco's :p

I think the authorities would deffo give whoever was driving that disability benefits (they were able bodied but all chavs should be considered sub-human anyway)

i'm pretty ok with death by chopping chav's (and chavetts for that matter) legs off!

Psst topics over here!

When you click the "insert image" button, couldnt a little window pop up instead with just the upload page shown? >> http://upload.overclock3d.net

Rather than it asking for a URL to the image, offer the image to be hosted instead, and perhaps more people would use the service. You could always offer another box in the window "URL to uploaded image" like there is now, giving that option too.

If more knew about the upload service, am sure more would use it! Dangle it in front of their noses :) And all the piccies will be safe for generations to come, the planet will be saved from global warming too.
