Loop Question

OK I want to understand something.

Manufacturers i.e Alphacool, Swiftech etc....put the rad as the last point in a WC loop (after the cpu)

Some people put the rad before the CPU in their loop.

I understand the reason for thinking the rad would be better directly before the cpu but I wonder if there's anything to substansiate this thinking or if we should stick to the manufacturers ideas...

Answers on a postcard please...

In all honesty It makes little to no difference. Some people swear by:

Pump>Rad>Blocks>Rad

But in the end, no matter whre you put it - it'll get the job done.

I dont think it makes a huge difference bt I put mine before the CPU so that it gets the coolest water and takes the tiny amount of heat from the pump out of the loop before the CPU

yep, thats the setup i use since the pump has a slight strain on it to get the water up and through the rad

Res>Pump>Rad>CPU>GPU>Res is the best way to go.

Some people argue there is only a 0.5 deg C difference, I found rad in front of cpu to be 1-2 deg cooler (after trying rad before and after cpu)...

Well, the GPU should be the last one in the loop before the rad, no?? Assuming it's a DX10 card at least, which means it'll be hotter than most CPUs...

It would make a difference, as the water can only go to the same temperature as the cpu, so the cooler it is, the more cooling its going to do. Whether it would make a significant difference or not is a different matter.
