okay heres my little dilema iv just built a new computer which consists of

AMD Athlon 64 dual core processor 4400+ 2.3ghz

Asus m2r32 mvp motherboard

2 gb ram

500 gig hard drive

now im missing one thing...graphics card ofcourse lol, i cant figure out which is the top of the line to get atm.

most the games i play are the latest EA sports series.

any help would be greatly appreciated, atm im leaning over to the ATI but iv been hearing alot about the nvidia 512mb cards to...any opinions welcome

thanks :)

The top of the line in memory capacity is 1GB now for ATI cards, and 768MB for Nvidia. Memory really isn't a good approximation of a cards performance or placement in the specific family.

The absolutely highest performing card is the Nvidia 8800 Ultra, it is overpriced though and the difference between it and the 8800 GTX is not very significant. A good bet would be an 8800 GTS 640MB, if overclocked it will most likely outperform a stock clocked 8800 GTX.

If you want to go with ATI their current top of the line card is the 2900XT, its performance rests somewhere around an 8800 GTS 640MB. It is reported to run a little bit hotter and have less mature drivers.

You didn't mention what power supply you have but you will need something substantial, with a large +12V Rail/Rails. Also beware of the brand, I would recommend , Tagan, PC Power & Cooling or Enermax.

thanks for that man...

im looking into the 2900xt heaps, i like what i read... but when it comes to graphics itself on an ea sports title which would be overall the better card, NVIDIA OR the ATI?

For an EA sports title I doubt you need an 8800 or a HD 2900...

atm im running a 256mb 9600xt on my old Motherboard and old cpu and the graphics are decent, lol i want extreme graphics...maybe im asking for too much, iv already overclocked my graphic card, dont know what else i could possibly do?

thats why iv upgraded my comp to a dual core cpu, and a pci-e motherboard, but thats not running atm, as i cant decide what graphic card to get....

What games do you really wanna play? In my opinion, for your sports games and stuff an 8600GT would be best and it has DX10 also.

Your very best bet is an 8800GTS. They beat out the 2900XT in most situations and are considerably cheaper than the 8800 Ultra

Yes id say the 8800GTS 640mb as well. Its usualy about $100 cheaper and is almost neck and neck with the HD2900. Not only that, but the HD2900 is extremely loud and the power consumption is incredible. The heat output in a closed case with even decent airflow is rediculous.

Check here to see how loud this thing is.

seems like 8800 gts is the way to go eh?

sad to see il leave ATI behind lol,iv only ever used ATI Graphic cards

the past 5-8 years or something, the 2900xt is about $610 Australian atm

so if ur saying the 640mb 8800gts is $100 cheaper...then dam why wouldnt anyone else go with the same combination hehe

anyways thanks all.

BTW take a loook at this review 8800 gts vs 2900xt, amazingly the 2900xt ripped the gts in Most games apart from two, the only big downside to the 2900xt was the fact it consumes too much heat...give it a year i guess, ATI will be back up there :)

anyways heres the link.very interesting read.... http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=645

Youll notice that the 2900 and GTS/GTX go back and forth in different games and reviews. Ive noticed though that the important DX10 games the GTX/GTS is ahead except like 1.
