Looking for a New Keyboard

Hi Everyone,
I'm in the market for a new keyboard as I'm now using a crappy Logitech wireless one that makes my fingers sad. There are just so many out there that I thought I'd ask for some help.

I think I want something mechanical, as I will be using this keyboard for both gaming and typing long documents, but I've never used a mechanical before so I'm not sure.
I would like a blue backlight, but I know my options are limited there. A white backlight would work too, but no other colors.
My budget is $100, and I would prefer to spend less if I can.
It can't be too big, my current keyboard is about 45cm long and that's about where I want it.

That's about as specific as I'll get for now, but I'm sure I'll be able to weed through some selections based on other stuff. Any suggestions are appreciated! Also, I know this isn't a "Build", but I wasn't sure where else to put it :)

Corsair K90. May be slightly over budget, but well worth it IMO.

I love mine. Good to type on if you dont mind the noise of the mech keys, and very very nice for gaming

I was looking at the K90, it just seems too big for me. I would never use all those macro buttons! Although I just went over to the Corsair site to find some dimensions, and keyboards are 25% off on their store... Hmm....

I havent touched the macros whatsoever. They just kind of sit there :)

You just ignore them after a few days, I dont even notice they're there anymore.

I do find it a little weird on the keyboard how not every key is mechanical.
Obiously all the main keys are, but escape, all the functions, and then the 9 from print screen - pause break - page down - delete are all on membrane. I know you dont exactly need them to be mechanical, but it still would have been nice to have every button feeling the same to press.

It's almost as if the site needs a 'Peripherals' section, huh? Hudathunkit.

Also, the K90 would fit your bill perfectly! But it's $15 over your budget :(
It's one of the most highly rated keyboards around, so if you can make it stretch that far, I would most definitely recommend it.
Edit: i'm a slow typer, and was busy trying to get inspiration from NewEgg - no avail there. But yeah, what James said!

Hmm that is weird. It's not a big deal to me I don't think, I've been using membranes for years. Probably just to keep costs down.
Found some numbers, the K90 is actually only about 5cm longer than my current keyboard, and the K60 is a little shorter. Those are seeming pretty nice right about now, especially at 25% off. I'm not gonna jump the gun yet though, other suggestions are welcome.

If the K60 came in blue, it would be perfect :)

Alright. I was slightly biased getting mine as I'd already bought the M60 mouse, and I thought it would look better to have both the same brand which obviously limited me to the k60 or 90. I didnt even really look around tbh, other than the razer blackwidow, but I think that's even more expensive, and probably not as good as the corsair

I'm the same way man, I've had a Razer Deathadder for a couple years now so of course I HAVE to get a Razer keyboard. Not sure if I will though. The Black Widow Ultimate seems like a good option too, but I feel like Razer has gone downhill as a company the past couple years.

I know it's so weird! I spent like 5 minutes looking for a keyboard section cuz I swore I've seen it before or something!

i can thoroughly recommend the roccat isku, there's a small issue for me with the key lighting for the "secondary features" but i know my way enough around a board for this to be a non issue for me as its purely as i have my keyboard pushed about 12" from the desk edge for it to be more comfortable for me to type, but it certainly ain't a deal breaker of an issue as its a self made issue lol

plus and here's the great thing, the backlighting is BLUE, lol

Haha thanks for the post Vengeance. I PMed you about the Isku before and am THIS close to buying it, but then I figured out it's a membrane. How do the keys feel though? Nice and easy to type on?

Decisions decisions... Think I might be up a little late tonight, I gotta get something soon to finish typing up my summer work!

The MK-50 might be something. Especially with the limited offer to pick your own switches. 100 euro's with shipping thats about 125 dollars. Might be a bit over budget but well worth it. I've got an Mk-80 with blue switches and just love it. The typing is just so much better than on my old G11. And I like it for gaming too. The mk-50 doesnt have backlight though.

Maybe you can find it at a local webstore in the US, might be cheaper than right from the producer themselves.

OR you could get a Das Keyboard at Newegg for 108$ free shipping. They say it's one of the best there is. I wanted one but just couldnt find a spot in the Netherlands that had em and buying it in germany with the correct layout was just a pain in the ass. So i bought an mk-80.

And remember, a mechanical keyboard will last a lot longer than a membrane keyboard. So I think its well worth the investment.

OK I think I'm going to go with a Razer Blackwidow. After a lot of internet searching the Blackwidow seems really nice and would match my Deathadder absolutely perfectly. Really hoping I won't regret it, but if I do my second choice will be a K60.

One final thing though, I can either get a normal Blackwidow for $70, or the Ultimate for $100, the only difference being the backlight and the USB, headset, and mic passthroughs which I'll never use. WTF??? I really can't justify paying $30 more for lights, but it would just look soooo much nicer right? Looks like I'll be sitting here for a little while longer...

You'll be happy with the cheaper one - but very happy with the backlights :)

I think you may regret not paying the extra for the backlights. I think of it more as I'll be using the keyboard for the next few years so may as well spend the extra money and get the thing I really want, even if it is a little more

That's exactly what I was thinking james, which is why I went for the backlights. Should be here in the next day or two, can't wait to try it out! Now that you say it though I do have some gloves with LEDs built in... Shoulda just got the regular lol!
