Longhorn/'Vista' not to have the Monad CLI

The New Monad Command Line Interface

These days, Microsoft seems to be saying more about what vaunted technologies will not make it into Longhorn than those that will. The latest casualty of pressure to get Longhorn out the door and into the hands of customers is Microsoft's new command line scripting shell, known as "Monad" or MSH (Microsoft Shell).

Monad was slated to replace the command line in Windows with an object-oriented technology that rivals shells found on Unix systems. Beta versions of the software have been available to testers since early Longhorn alpha releases, but now Microsoft is looking further down the road with Monad.

Apparently they didnt want to create a security risk ...

maybe Microsoft are changing strategy from release now .. patch later to release later patch even later??

Ms can choke on a dick and quit cutting corners! People can just hold the fuck on and ms can push back the release a year for all i care. Xp is far from outdated and can hang in their till ms sorts its vista issues and fixes them instead of shitcanning the idea all together just to rush the release and present us all with a different looking xp.

he's right ;)

I'm a very sarcastic person Joe, but I did use it for a full time OS for about 1.5 years. I can't say it was bad, or good.

But...everyone knows ME was XP pushed off the shelves one year early :D

erm actually ME was 98 2 years on it had very little in common to do with the core of XP

Xp's heritage goes like this

NT>2000>XP>vista they all use the NT kernel

ME's Goes like this

95>98>98se>ME they all use the 9x kernel

Oh well.

I have a feeling Vista is gonna be a half-assed worth junk OS...kind of like ME.

IE no major improvements, only minor.

ME was just a nicer-looking refreshed 98SE.

i agree wit ya there this will be ME 2k7 version (well same principle bhind it but wit better DRM)

honestly i dont think im gonna use it i ill download XP SP3 (hopefully it will have the pillars of vista in it if not ill d/l them seperatley) and integrate into my xp disk

even if bill gates sucked off a donkey to promote the thing i wouldnt download it

That DRM is bullshit.

They cant prevent me from doing what I like to do on the compy.

There will be a way to get around it and modify/delete it.

They should name this release Windows XP ME lol....

Going to be a complete waste of sperm unless u feel the need to have uber 1337 looking new folders, rofl... I'll get it knowing I can pick up a copy for $8 from the MS company store, but still... Fucking stooooooopid MS!

It shouldn't be, they have had long enough to get the bloody thing running sweet imho. Then again this is M$ we are talking about, all we can do is sit back, relax and wait for the security flaws to be announced. I am interested in seeing what this OS can actually do, but I'll prooly do an XMS and turn the bells and whistles off :D

you all complain about ms, but lets face you are going to use vista day in day out eventually. just like u use xp. and im sure whateva ms do u wil complain about it.

Actually IMO MS dont have to release a new OS ... they sell a copy of each os with each machine -- their profits would remain stable ... alll they would haffa do if keep it patched (cmon that will keep their programmers busy for the next 20+ years :D)

No one's going to argue with you on that one Dave, at some point we'll all be using Vista without a doubt.

It's the simple fact that M$ has this obsession with rushing the release of new OS's when the current OS is suiting everyone just fine. I can't stand the fact that they are taking out all of the features that made Vista so intriguing just because they found a flaw and they aren't going to take the time fo fix it and continue the implementation. All in all, we're going to end up with an OS that has the exact same infrastructure as XP, but with a new theme... That's all fine and dandy, but people aren't going to be happy at the price tag that the revamped XP has on it.

Damn you M$!!! Fix your problems, no one wants another XP, we want VISTA, the REAL VISTA, the Vista you promised us a long time ago!!!!

i read the artical that was given a link to, and it mentions that xp was supposed to, but didnt run properly on 128 megs of ram.....ive got it running with full effects on a higrade machine with a p2 400mhz and 64 megs of ram. thats what i dont liek botu xp, soemtimes it sucks power like no tommorow, and sometimes it runs using less power than 3.1..id liek it to have some sort of constant level of resorce management. talkign of which, is vista goign to employ a new memory management interface, it better do becausethe one on xp just takes the piss, its always set to use 60% of available ram on my comp, so it gets full up of things like aols filing cabanet and quicktime times ten..maybe in vista they should employ a new system where he memoery gets cleared of programs every half an hour or somthing

there is a registry hack to automatically unload DLL files after xp has finsihed using them. would you be interested in this if i dug it up for you?
