Well thanks to the Amazing after sales support at Logitech i now have the opportunity to Review the new G500.
So today I'll be looking at the G500 and comparing it to its older brother the G5.

Up Close and personal
The first thing that is an obvious change from the G5 to G500 is the Addition of another 2 buttons located at the thumb and the Positioning of the 'on the fly dpi adjuster'. Then when you look closer You will see the button located next to the scroll wheel that enables 'hyper scrolling' Just like Logitech flagship wireless MX revolution. Then once you get hold of it in your hand you will immediately notice the new textured feeling to the mouse's 'rubberized' sides. Yet it still has that durable braided Usb lead to help reduce the chance of damaging your cables and for that nicer look.
For comparison going from left to right G5 with the one thumb button , G500 with the additional thumb buttons, then a G7 that i thought i would throw in to show how Logitech designs have matured.
When we get to the under side of the mouse we once again get to see the cartridge system commonly used among Logitech gaming mice and the all familiar 'gaming grade laser' that is seen among all of Logitech higher end laser mice.
As you can see the mouse comes with an abundance of weights with several different configurations of weights to suit every gamers needs.
So lets get to the nitty gritty.

The polling and response
Well the Logitech preforms how most gamers would want. Holding a rock solid poling rate peaking at 1052HZ and a peak response time of of 0.95MS. Compared to its older brothers 2ms Response and 500hz poll rate this bad boy is out to impress. What can i say Logitech are out there to keep inline with the best and are doing good so far.
A few hours Of gaming
After 4-5 hr's on MW2 and several weight changes and alterations from the pure crazy 5700dpi i can quite happily say that this mouse has met expectations and exceeded them with a sharp response as you would expect from a mouse of this pedigree. The on the fly DPI change really works well with the customization available in Set point , at a snap of the index finger you can go from 3500dpi Smg spraying to 1700DPI precision sniping and back again faster than you can change your weapons in game. And i must say the positioning of the 'on the fly' buttons make this feature far more accessible in the heat of a battle.
But then i decided for a nice little play around on The good old World of Warcraft. Where this mouse shone above its older brother for me. With every single button being programmable and 'macro-able' this mouse suddenly became more appealing with the 3 thumb buttons compared to its brothers one and the 'on the fly' buttons being able to be programed to behave differently . So after a quick play around i had my paladins vital attacks and defenses set on my mouse. So after 6 or 7 hours of farming battlegrounds i can happily say this mouse is a joy to play with with my Divine shield set to a thumb button and my hand of freedom no more snares for me! I can certainly say the extra buttons are a huge advantage for a MMORPG such as Word of Warcraft.
For home and office?
Well it does everything a mouse can do for this. I have no complaints but at the end of the day any mouse does for just web and apps. But there is a nice feature on this mouse for scrolling through them threads with loads and loads of pictures. The 'hyper scroll' button. Just click it and flick the scroll wheel and watch the pages speed by.
So click it or flick it???
After almost 48 hours with this mouse what can i say but what a joy it is and it has lived up to the G series family name. Initially the Textured feeling took a while to get use to but once use to it made holding the mouse much more comfortable and more grippy for them flick shots.
The sensor itself is superb. Very sharp and responsive stops when you stop no over running the target. the additional buttons with the fully programmable and macro options sure do put this mouse out there mixing with the top boys , the Logitech set point software is Very straight forward and easily understood with the option of having individual profile setup to launch for each different game. With prices Starting at around the £40 mark for this mouse i must say the value for money is defiantly there with all the features and the Logitech no quibble 3 year guarantee.
The not so good
After just 2 days of semi hardcore usage the silver metal effect in the palm area has started to fade away not a big deal but you don't want the mouse to start looking shabby to quickly do you ?
overall results
10/10 for performance does everything a good games mouse should do should do
8/10 for price could be cheaper but the value for money vs other brand for the features it has is good.
8/10 presentation The mouse itself is presented superbly with a awesome layout but the packaging is very boring and doesn't draw you to buy it of the shelf along side other brands
