Linus Tech Tips' YouTube Channel has been hacked by Crypto Scammers

Wow, this was very sophisticated... I had the two videos recomended to me, not as an youtube notification but as a gooogle recomendation, I just observed the thumbnails and read the titles, I did find it odd Elon Musk suddenly making youtube videos about bitcoin but I didn't give it much thought, simply dismissed the notifications, and now I learn that they were published on the LTT channel after it was hacked?

Just the size of it to get to be pushed out by google and end up as a notification to someone like me who doesn't even care or follow anything about crypto...

He has 60 or so employees now I beleive.

There must be a dozen or more people with access to high level account information, thats a huge target for criminals to go for.

It happened to another YouTube channel I watch a couple of weeks ago, "Hibbert Home Tech" and it was the same scam basically.

He released a video explaining what had happened and how he is going to try and avoid it in the future.

Then released a follow up because of things he wanted to address in the 1st video.

He blames Microsoft and Google for it, on top of himself for opening it.

Video out. It was Colton. Opened a PDF he thought was from a sponsor. Which robbed the cookies, and some important ones.

I must say it does kinda annoy me that he blames YT and Google. He always seems to bitch about them, yet his $85m he has amassed is basically down to them. Seems kinda sketch to bite the hand that feeds all the time. Boots and too big for comes to mind.

He has some valid points though, other than whoever it was downloading the dodgy PDF that caused it all, they should not have been able to do what they did for as long as they did.

I don't like the guy that much but Google have some (large) part to play in this because if it wasn't so easy to do, it wouldn't be getting done on a daily basis.

I won't lie to me at least it doesn't sound "easy". Wrapping malware in a PDF and then knowing what to do from there sounds pretty high level to me and not just the act of a script kiddy.

Until they can figure out how to stop it there isn't much they can do. Pro hackers are always ahead. Any exploit is also ahead. You fix it? They then find another one.

It just irks me when Linus continually bleats about how bad YouTube is. It's rotten, IMO. Mostly because without them he'd still be working in a warehouse. Why does he bad mouth it all the time? Easy isn't it? For once again I can see right through it. The reason he does so is solely to promote his own platform, floatplane. Which you can't even watch without paying for.

I find it amazing YouTube let him do that, but hey money.

I just find it ungrateful is all. But then I ain't rich and I ain't greedy either.
