Once again it is just there as a smoke screen to create a higher price bracket. They KEEP doing this to everything. It kinda reminds me of Mephesto in South Park adding assholes to his monkey.
Dunno man, but imho, this year's Computex was one of the most exciting with some cool new stuff. Just like these screens on fans. Not necessary, but definitely cool.
stupid stuff? like being able to display your radiator/coolant temp right on the fan its bolted to? or finally matching the noctua a12x25's cooling performance by using liquid crystal polymer , for both top level performance and aesthetics. yeah, sooo dumb.

Any one with a reasonable water cooling setup will have a good controller. Like an Aquaaero or whatever else. At which point you can set everything you want to display by just using Rivatuner. You don't need to keep adding dumb screens to everything.
I tell you what, if we see a build with these and there is only one fan with a screen on them you may have a point. If, however, people buy loads and have dumb stuff on every screen? then it just proves the point we are making collectively. And that is it is just more bolt on tat.
Inevitably every CPU and motherboard has over heat protection. Just in the BIOS. And, you can set that yourself too. All of these tools are already there. If anything fails that screen ain't going to help you any way, given all it does is show you the temps you can easily just show through MSI Afterburner in the OSD of Rivatuner for $£0.
IF you wanted something better than any screen? Aquaero. Its superb, you can programme it to alarm at core temps, liquid temps and god knows what else and you don't need no dumb screen. If however you do want the dumb screen? then get the non LT one.
