LGA 775 second-hand parts Build

About 37 minutes into the Orca Complete video, TTL briefly mentioned a P5K Premium and an E6850. It just happens that my local PC shop has a used P5K (it's not a P5K Premium) and a few E6850 chips - these chips are 'bulk', i.e. just the chips with no heatsinks. The board and chips are going really cheap.

I'd really like to put another 775 system together (mainly because I don't have the cash for an Ivy/Sandy build) and would appreciate any advice on the non-Premium version of the P5K coupled with an E6850, if anyone has any past experience with these parts.

Cheers from Yokohama, Japan.

They would need to be very cheap to make it worth buying.

The plain P5K is also a very basic board. I think youd probably find better on ebay or something.

Yeah, thanks for your advice. 775 is pretty ancient now. I'm gonna shelve that idea and look for some used 1366 stuff in Akihabara. Have you ever been there, BTW? Unfortunately, all the good, i.e. knowledgable, PC shops are gradually disappearing. The place is being taken over by superficial trivia called 'Anime'. F***ing shame!

Anyway, thanks for this site, keep up the great work and make longer videos! (Kraken vs Corsair vs NZXT would be nice . . . . nudge nudge wink wink)

Cheers

Going with the title "second hand".

If the bits are cheap and/or free, and you know the kit will do the job you want it to do - it's worth it.

.. it's when you start buying things that it can get silly. If you need coolers etc. (although you 'could' find 1155/2011 cooler that do 775 also and atleast you can use them in the future on a newer build)
