LG Electronics, a global leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, has launched its new line-up of high speed optical DVD rewriters to the UK.

I couldn't find any mention of these drives on the LG UK site, maybe they're just updating. The GSA-H50L and GSA-H54N models are listed on the LG Germany site however.

I really like the LG Super Multi's. Mmm faster write speeds and a SATA connector ... might be tempted depending on the price.

Cpu requirements: performance slowing?

Hi everybody,

I just bought an LG GSA-H54L DVD Rewriter and found that the CPU required is Pentium III or above. Does anybody know what could happen if I mount the drive on my old Pentim II pc? What kind of performance decrease must I expect? Would it be just a matter of reading/writing speed or it could also be a major problem such as a drive freeze and/or writed data corruption?

I wonder if it is worth to open the package and have a try or it is best to give it back to the HW shop.

Thanks for helping, regards.

Ciccio.

I wouldn't say that the drive would freeze etc. I would expect it's LG covering themselves by saying that it won't perform as fast as the stated figures with a slower system

Thanks for your help, that was my idea too. Anyway, do you know **how much** the performance decrease might be? Slowing under some threshold is equivalent to be completely unuseful. Let's say it does'nt scare me to write to the drive at 4X, provided that I can read and play audio/video DVDs without jitter or 'choke'. Thanks again, C.

Aren't these SATA drives? Does that board support SATA or do you have a PCI SATA controller card installed for that? Just curious :) Cheers.
