Leopold Keyboards any good?

Heya guys,

I've been wanting to go mechanical for a while now and after a LOT of reading I decided that I want something with Cherry MX Brown switches. Leave it to me to pick some of the hardest to find.

As I live in the Netherlands, where the market is very (really, very) small, these were pretty much impossible to find for a decent price. Most that did have them also had blue backlight or something like that. Backlight isn't necessary for me, but if it were green or white, I'd be okay with it.

Thought about the Roccat Ryos MK Pro, but that still isn't released and would probably be a tad expensive. Only has blue backlight too.
Stumbled upon the new version of the Gigabyte Osmium with brown switches and white backlight but that's not even available where I live ._.

So today I came across this:
http://www.getdigital.de/products/Leopold_Tastatur/lng/en
The Leopold FC500R

It has no backlight, but it does come with MX Browns. And the price seems pretty good, actually. Thing is; I've never heard of the brand. Has anyone ever used one? Are they decent quality? Are they well-known and is it just because I don't know an awful lot about keyboards?

Also, would love to know wether it would still be profitable to use PS2 ports for keyboards? It doesn't have n-key rollover on USB. I know that it actually used to be a better option over USB but I don't know how things have evolved.

And if I do get it, which version? ;)

Thanks guys :)

I've never used a Leopold keyboard before (I have a Filco with cherry brown switches), but whilst researching to buy a mechanical keyboard I saw nothing but GOOD about Leopold keyboards. :D

Hope this helps,

Thanks, I've tried to look up reviews but they're a bit difficult to find.
How are you liking the MX Browns?

That's where I got mine, If you are still researching.

Yeah, I've seen that page but shipping would be mad expensive for me and I didn't really see anything that I really, really liked.

I would always recommend a Ducky Shine keyboard, they look awesome and are of great quality, sadly I have no experience with the Leopold keyboard. Also I could recommend the "Das Keyboard" http://www.daskeyboard.com/

Edit: getdigital.de is a great seller, I regularly buy from them and the quality of the sold products never disappointed me so far, if that is your concern.

i have quiet a bit of mechanical keyboards :

-KBT pure (mix of cherry mx greens and blues)
-2 leopold Tenkeyless (cherry mx blues and browns)
-2 filco majestouch ninja tenkeyless (cherry mx browns and red)

i really like al of them but if money isn't an issue i would choose the filco .
i would choose it because i prefer the stabelizers on the filco and the build quality.
but it has a couple of downsides as well first it's more noisy then the leopold.
and the other downside is that it is more expensive.

But the leopold is also a valid choice.
it has a real quality feel for the price and it is nice and 'silent' (for a mechanical keyboard).
and it has a detachable cable and cable rooting option.
this makes it look verry clean on your desk.

leopold : value for money
filco : the best (cherry mx keyboard)

some tips for these keyboards: if you buy the filco turn the spacebar 180° (ergonomics mod).
this tip is for all keyboards get pbt keycaps.
why because it feels better, the keys don't get shiny and it sound better (more satisfying)

if you have a big budget choose a keyboard with topre switches
but is suppose thats no option

i hope this helps you

Ducky is out of the budget, especially cause the only ones I can get over here are the blue or orange backlit versions which would drive me crazy. Even if you can turn it off it would annoy me knowing that it's there

Importing one would just be too expensive. There's also the risk of having to pay customs, which can cost "Up to €200,-" No thanks

Thanks for the comment though, knowing that the quality is good was my main concern.

As above, these brands are too hard to come by (I even had trouble finding the Leopold keyboard) and importing is just not really something I want to do.

It's good to know that the quality is good though! Also that it's not too loud. I'm sometimes on the computer at night when my dad is asleep and I don't want to wake him up by typing, even though I know any mechanical keyboard is going to be louder than rubber domes.

I'm new to mech keyboards anyway, so it's not like I'll know the difference from a somewhat higher end one. I'm on a budget so I definitely want the best value for my money :)

i own a leopold fc200r with blues
can't really say anything negative about it
just a very solid built, minimalistic mechanical keyboard

Good to hear!

Guess it's time for me to ask my dad to use his credit card then, as they don't accept bank transfer :s
(Yes, I will pay him back. Maybe a bit extra for the trouble :p)
