Ouch this guy is serious. And with reason, nVidia also did it with their 9xx0 mobile series. The 9600M is equal to the 9500GT.

On one side I hope this is getting through to teach nVidia they can't do anything they want. On the other hand it'll be a large blow to both sales and investors of nVidia which might be bad for the consumer prices.

I'm a bit relieved to see this tbh. Nvidia has the most complicated naming scheme of them all and they've been pushing it far too much now. Not just re-brandings, but the base of the naming scheme as a whole. For example, why doesn't the 8400 perform better than the 7900? Higher model number, but less performance. While it may be using an updated architecture, to the consumer, it make no sense and may be misleading.

It was only a matter of time before someone started pushing back.

Hopefully Nvidia will smarten up and rethink their naming scheme.

This could also provide AMD/ATI with a nice push into the lead if things go well (bad for Nvidia). Still waiting for the day where ATI is crowned champion again.

Hmm, I'm not so sure, there are minor differences aren't there between the 8800gt and 9800gt for example? They'll probably get away with it

I think that Nvidia should be taken roughly from behind and given the treatment the've given us over the years... It will ensure that a few changes are made and perhaps they will be a bit more consumer friendly like ATI... or perhaps they'll get away all this and they'll take us from the behind even harder in the future... Lets see how effective the Law is ...

Ive been looking around for a new graphics card recently and im glad somthings happening about Nvidia! Their naming system just doesnt follow a logical order, and some cards which claim to be from different series chips are the same with only minor changes... very confusing to the less knowlagable

It's a jump for the site-hit bandwagon of the non-issue of "rebranding".

That seems reasonable. It is a different card, the size of it etc so that it can fit in a lappy.
