LED Monitors

Hi all, just wanted to ask has anybody got a LED monitor for their PC, if so, whats it like compared to a standard LCD monitor?

(LED is LCD, it just uses LED back lighting)

I may be interested in buying one. The prices aren't too bad, and I have seen some on display, the quality ... so beautifully vibrant and vivid

I wouldn't get too sucked in on the LED backlights. They have their advantages and disadvantages, but when it comes down to it you're looking at the real quality of the panel and electronic processing rather than just the backlight.

For example, a monitor with better image quality (and bigger) in that price range - Samsung B2430H. It has a CCFL backlight, but the difference in power is about 10W in real life conditions. Not massive. Sure, it's not as thin, but it's still VESA mountable. I've also heard that a lot of LED monitors are too bright out of the box and will require some tweaking. Although they also boast better backlight uniformity, it still doens't hide a bad screen.

Dell make some very good monitors, but mainly the IPS panels, which cost a fortune. Their TN panels don't stand much apart from the rest of the crowd to be honest.

Personally, I just ordered a Samsung P2450H. Very similar to the B2430H except better internals and nicer exterior (subjective, of course) albeit 7-8 months older in design.

wouldn't bother worrying too much about getting a LED backlit screen as the panel will be the same as a CCFL screen.

Some people have reported backlight bleed on the edges with LED also (unless you enable dynamic contrast which causes the screen to flicker when u get white text on black etc).

Most aspects of LED backlit screens should be identical to lcd screens tho given they use the same panels?

What advantages do you get from LED backlit screens?

Power usage

Better Blacks/whites?? (only when in dynamic contrast mode which causes flicker and often puts screen into full contrast and brightness causing it to be too bright when up close)

Cheaper to manufacture? (there are reportedly CCFLs which are 60% cheaper than LEDs)

I was looking at LED backlit vs CCFL a month or so ago as I bought a new monitor (ended up getting a Samsung SM2333 for £120)
 
People say the LED has more "true" colors.

But you can just borrow some ones color munki and software profile your monitor have near perfect colors on a CCFL LCD, It's what I did any way.

Kinda not relevant but it bugs me people saying they want a LED TV then see LCD writen on it and be like "I want a LED TV not a LCD TV" Blah

LED telly's are good, bought a 22'' one recently, its rather smart, and the colours are a little sharper, blacks are a little blacker...etc etc...brightness is a bit better

its an improvement, ...but not a new begining like...

if you get me

its the next step up, but not the next flight up...

I held back buying a new monitor for my PC because I was never satisfied with the picture on LCD monitors.

However 4 months ago I made the plunge and finally changed my 19” CRT to a 24” LED monitor. Definitely the right choice, looks fantastic and the picture/colours are so much better than any LCD monitors I’ve used before.

I have a LG W2486L monitor and it looks brilliant whatever I throw at it.

Hey i have the same monitor but i have blue tinted dots in some colors, do you have them as well?
 
I have a LED monitor, I have the Benq G2420HDBL LED Monitor and it is great, massive contrast ratio of 5000000:1 and a fairly good 5ms response time.

The best thing about the monitor is the contrast ratio, most LED monitors have a great contrast ratio, so if you are looking for good contrast and picture quality

LED is the way to go

No I don't get that problem. Have you tried using a different cable or input? Or even plugging something different into the monitor like a Blu-ray player, Xbox or PS3?

none of them m8 i`ve tried only laptop nd pc + all possible cables dsub, dvi-d, hdmi, i will try ps3 someday, but i think there is a hardware problem into monitor.
 
I just brought a 22" BenQ GL2240 LED monitor, and it looks great, and gives a stunning picture in movies and games. And it is cheap too!

I tested an LG E2290V Super LED monitor a week ago.

It was really good: Deep and vibrant colours, accurate grey and blacks.

Okay, colours aren't as good as In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels, but they come close. LED is also much thinner (this E2290v for certain (7.2mm), but it's really expensive (300EUR) and more environmentally friendly. Downsides are slower response times than CCFL backlit LCD monitors (in general), TN-panels--> horrible viewing angles. But overall, I think you can't do much wrong purchasing an LED monitor.

Btw, IPS LED monitors will be launched soon if I'm correct, but I fear they'll be incredibly expensive :\.

And I totally agree with Ionicle, LED is cool,sometimes better, a step up from CCFL, but not a completely new era.
 
Recently bought a 22" LED monitor from Samsung. My pops was quite impressed, even scolded me for not getting a bigger monitor.
 
I would say the battle of LED vs LCD depends on the individual monitor, I've seen fantastic LED and LCD monitors, remember your paying more in generally for LED as its a more recent technology but that doesn't necessarily make it better!

Also depends on your budget, for me you can get some decent and reliable LCD monitors out there that are just as good as LED backlit ones in every way. two of the best monitors on both sides i've seen are the:

22" LG2240s LED Monitor.... £125.68 Amazon.co.uk

and

22" Samsung 2230h LCD Monitor.... £135.40 Amazon.co.uk

I first saw these at Pc-world(December 2010) next to each other and was amazed at how alike they were... in the end i bought the samsung from amazon, why? because it has full connectivity including VGA, DVI and HDMI and it just looked slightly better overall.
