Well I think I've nailed down the final line up for my GF's new rig. Check it out and comment where I've been dumb

Case= Silverstone RV02E white

PSU= NZXT Hale 90 850W

Mobo= ASUS Sabretooth P67A

CPU= 2500k

CPU cooler= Fugly Noctua NH-D14 (may change fans if hideous)

RAM= undecided on colour. Maybe Mushkin radioactive or Corsair Vengeance LP white

GPU= MSI GTX580 Lightning

SSD= Crucial C300 64GB for now as OS drive(already have). Kingston Hyper X if the C300 is pants

HDD= WD caviar black 1TBx2 using onboard raid 1

Probably lit up with white LEDs when built.

Comments please, especially on the asthetics

I agree even though its a performer the Noctua is pig ugly. Have a look at the dark rock pro or advanced - they are more than enough for a 2500K.

Going for a high overclock on the 2500k though. Hopefully around 4.8GHz if I win the silicon lottery.

I may see if I can change the Noctua fans for the Be Quiet Silent wings fans.

I don't know why everyone calls the D-14 a fugly crap... Swap the fans and it looks pretty darn cool to me.

You'll easily get a 4.8 clock stable with a Dark Rock pro. Mine can sit @ 4.8Ghz with a Vantage water cooling unit.

OK, knew this was coming. I'm just installing my Noctua and it looks crap in my black & white build

Are there some similar performing black/white fans I could install on the Noctua?

They don't sell a white led version. There are lots of suitable looking fans out there, but i'm guessing teh fans on a heatsink may be speciafic in some way. Pressure, etc...?

if you plan on getting an nhd14 and replacing the fans be careful not to replace the silent noctua fans with noisy ones. the nhd14 is fanous for its performance but also silence, sickleflows are noisy fans unless you use a resistor or a fan controller so take that into account. replacing the fans will not harm performance unless you dramatically decrease ammount the air blown through them.

here is an example of a resistor i found

here is a white LED 120mm fan i found, unsure how silent it is but i see your going for a white theme
