I have been given an old laptop that stopped working, basically if i can get it going again i can keep it. Its an old Dell Latitude 100L and all that happens is when you plug the mains power adapter in, two of the lights just flicker on the front. It wont start up or do anything. I have stripped it right out and cant see anything obvious thats burnt out, so can any body suggest what it might be. Im thinking its probably the mother board shot, but would i be able to get a replacement ?

Any Suggestions ?

I will get some pictures of it later.

Cheeers :D:D

Yeah you will be able to get a replacement but tbh they will most likely charge you a hefty sum. Getting serials and model details is a start, if you post that we can try look some more. Sounds like a broken mobo or power problems.

Ok, its a Latitude 100L Model. If i could perhaps find a motherboard that works second hand then it might be quite cheap to get going.

Heres some pictures...

Wow, thats more than the whole unit is probably worth !!!!!

The link to Dell seems like it could be of some use though, i might try following those steps when i get time.

Yeah thats what I mean mate they charge the brand new price. I remember looking for a power supply (charger) for my Samsung R70 because it was buzzing. OUCH a smack in the mouth £90 for a lead, thought forget that and stuck with the buzzing :).

You're better off asking people you personally know, or even popping into local dealers asking if they have anything for some dosh.

I tried the dell help steps today as mentioned above but unfortunately no help. Looks like it really is a motherboard fault.

Anybody know of any replacement boards going cheap or is it going to be a scrapper ???

Most likely a scrapper but keep it ofc, you might come across one.
