laptop monitor coversion

Hello, i am going to be converting a laptop monitor into a desktop monitor. I will be using an old psu to power it, i will short it and use 5v. I will also be changing the weird laptop connector to dvi. I don't know if i will make a bezel for it but i will concentrate on making it work for now. 40 pins to turn into 24.
Parts:
LG and Phillips laptop screen LP154W01
DVI to VGA converter (to be ripped apart)
Hipro 560w PSU

Are you sure this'll work? A friend of mine tried it and it turned out the laptop ports were properiatary and he couldnt get it to work. good luck though
