Laptop died

Things just do not seem to going my way today. Get up to do some work from home and my laptop wont get to the log in screen just keeps going through boot up. I did recently put some new ram sticks in so I swaped back to the older ones to see if it was a hardware conflict but still nothing. So I try and go into system repair and it just keeps going and going and going. Its still running right now hopefully when I get home this evening it will have gotten somewhere but it is unlikely. I have a backup laptop but that thing is so ancient that it takes forever to boot up to the desktop.

So my build is probably going to be pushed up alot sooner than I wanted so I might just have to downgraded the hardware that I wanted in it to fit my current build budget that I have saved. Not to happy about this but I have to do what I have to do.

So I need an epic way to send the ole girl to the pasture. Now mind you I am a redneck and do own a few guns. But not to sure about this method. I would take the battery out and the HDD as I hopefully can recover the little data that I left on it....

So feel free to throw some ideas out there. I have to send it out in style.

I'd recommend getting a copy before shooting anything.

I'm guessing there is a license key sticker somewhere on the machine? Borrow a copy from a friend and use that license key.

I will give it a try but I dont think it will have an effect. I will probably just go and get a new copy of home premium seeing as i cant read the product key on the bottom of the laptop.

1. Linux is free if you have not got Windows. If you have another PC to download it onto do that and then boot from CD into Linux. You should / might even still be able to save your data.

2. If it is still not working get a shredder disc (nukem) and delete any traces of data and give it to someone who might be able to make use of it.

3. Build a trebuchet and cover teh laptop in petrol and set fire to then see how far you can launch it. Number 3 would be great on you tube.

Toxcity, yes I have Bios, and what it is doing is:

you hit the power on and while it is still booting to the log on screen it gives me an error report and has an option for system repair (I think that is what it was calling it) or boot normally. If you select system repair it will continue to try and find problems on the HDD and keep restarting until you just shut it off. I let it run all day and night yesterday until this morning before I gave up on it. I have a known good HDD with Win7 on it (came out of this laptop originally), swap them out and it keeps giving me the same error and doing the same thing. Now if the system repair had actually finished it would have givin me an option to revert back to a back up or system image which would be fine because I backed it up about a week ago. But because it never gets to that point I cant do it the easy way.

Chudley I like the way your think sir.

All in all it is very aggrivating knowing that I went to bed one night with it working like a top and the next morning it was toast.

your leptop is fine your windows installation just got corrupted.

Dont shot it!

Dont Catapult it either!

you only need an OS.

and if you dont have one now is the time to get one. for your future needs.

Its also cheeper than getting a new leptop and honestly if you are planning on getting rid of it cause you dont want to mess about with it.

you might as well give it to charity.

if you do decide on Reintalling your OS and you got a Copy PM me or post it here for a full explanation.

Good Luck.

I understand that I should give it a go. But two different HDD's doing the same exact thing? Both of which come out of this laptop. One is the factory one that spent all of about a month in this thing little under 2 years ago and the other is the one that was in it when it started witht the issue? Doesnt sound right. But once I have a day to get to the store and get a copy I will give it a go.
