KOTOR III?

Well not much game related news or gossip grabs my attention but this sure did, however I've never been much of a fan of the Starwars games franchise until recently when Humble bundle did the Obsidian bundle and within said bundle was Knights of the Old Republic 1 + 2, after a lengthy discussion on the forums I took the plunge and thoroughly enjoyed both games changing my perceptions, but ultimately in the end it left me with a gapping whole... where do we go from here, why hasn't there been a 3rd installment, so many unanswered questions.

Well as it happens, it seems that Obsidian Developers discuss it quite frequently, in a recent interview with IGN regarding Obsidian's upcoming title "Pillars of Eternity" the Project Director and Lead Producer, Josh Sawyer & Brandon Adler said that the subject of The Knights of the Old Republic 3 comes up "every three to six months".

“I think there are a lot of the people at the studio that would like to do Knights of the Old Republic 3,” Sawyer said. He then goes on to explain why he thought Lucas Arts never got around to reviving the project:
“I think at that time LucasArts was really focused on what they considered to be extreme, extreme blockbusters and even though the Knights of the Old Republic series was pretty successful, it just never seemed like something that was going to happen at that time. ”
While the studio hasn’t had a serious discussion about creating the game, it has developed a few ideas and acknowledges how awesome it could be: “It’s something that comes up every three to six months,” Adler added. “We bring it up and talk about it. Not anything terribly serious, but we just say ‘wouldn’t it be cool if?’ and just develop some ideas for what we’d do with that stuff.”

Whilst only a drop of information in a vast ocean of possible Starwars options what would you like to see?, I personnaly would be thrilled with a return to the KOTOR world and take up control of Darth Revan again.. I'm hoping with the soon to be Episode VII under the control of the good man JJ Abrams, this could well be the kickstart that Obsidian need to return to The Knights of the Old Republic.

It is my understanding that the MMO version is supposed to be the next part of the story. Indeed, I remember at launch they marketed that game as KOTOR 3, 4,5, 6 and 7.

Yeah your talking about Starwars the Old Republic which is by Bioware the guys responsible for KOTOR 1, but Obsidian have the engine and rights to KOTOR now so it's nothing to do with the Knights series. It does look good though.

I was gonna call it wrecked because EA, but it's Obsidian, so it might be good. Loved the first one, didn't get around to play the second one yet.

It was actually because of our conversations about KOTOR in the Humble Bundle that spired me on to buy them ;)

So props to you.

so wait obsidian has the rights to kotor... , what are the f waiting for, make the third one already, just imagine it with awesome hd visuals, even more planets, larger(finished story), what can be better

Here's hoping!

This would be excellent. The current KOTOR games are timeless - just behind Diablo 2 in terms of re-playability in my opinion.

I do feel that gamers are owed something of a 'sorry the Sith Lords end was screwed up, here's a better story' in the shape of a new title.

But as far as game mechanics are concerned, I wouldn't want them to change too much. Don't go and do a Dragon Age II on us!

Not sure where you got that idea from, but Obsidian holds no right to KoTOR franchise which is part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe. EA holds all the rights to Star Wars gaming on the desktop/consoles until 2019.

Bioware is already rumoured to be working on a new Star Wars RPG, but nothing has been confirmed on that so far.

Obsidian still have the development rights with Lucas Arts to develop the next Knights game in this franchise. If EA do take this game to the next level it will die a foul death.

Also Starwars the old Republic is already a MMORPG, you can play it >>Here<<

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Obsidian don't own rights to nothing in regards to Star Wars. Get over it.

Drop the know it all attitude. Its not needed here.

Never played any star wars games but i love the movies. Just never thought anything apart from SWBF2 looked good. Though this game sounds like it would be good based off what you guys say about the first two.

The original Kotor was one of the best RPGs I've played. I thought the turn-based combat kind of meh, but the story, setting and characters made me not care at all, those parts were truly Bioware at their absolute best. I didn't enjoy the second one nearly as much.

There's been mumblings of Kotor 3 for a long time now, tbh I'll believe it when I see it.

I, for one, would buy KOTOR III in a heart beat. Played the first two, and I am still waiting for a final chapter/conclusion/closure. Bring it on.

I always assumed Mass Effect was Kotor III without the Lucas licence. And BioWare has been busy making the same game over and over the past years. Bring your 3 / 4 companions, visit three planets / places in any order for clues and then go to the last ones and beat up the boss(es). :p
