Hi,

Thanks for the welcome

I've just had a look at Chudleys's guide and was following the instructions until it came to Step 6. I tried to auto detect the GPU's and it couldn't find any

Then on Step 7, I've never folded before, so don't have the details to fill this part in or am I just being a bit dumb

I'll be using my personal laptop to fold on, I was browsing the forums and was looking at Redline to fold for, such a great reason to fold

hahahaha, thanks Chudley

Indeed this kitten is well and truely stuck up a tree

As said before I do have a pc that I could fold on, but would only be able to fold overnight on it, where as the laptop could go all day and early evening
smile.gif
(I can provide the spec for both if anyone needs them to help me out)

I've now got my passkey, but am really stuck as to where I go from here to start folding and join your most awesome team

In an effort to keep it al in one thread

How do I Fold a few (IIRC 1 ) WU's first? Sorry to be a right pain, the actual folding side of things is completely new to me.

Also I do have access to an actual computer that I could fold on instead of my laptop, though I'd only be able to fold overnight on it as it'd be in use during the day and the early evening. Would that be better than trying to use my laptop?

Will I be able to fold on any of these?

Yep those will fold alright

As both systems are not online 24/7 the SMP (multi core client) is probably not your best bet since they take quite some time to finish.

You could try the SMP client though, it really depends how much time the machines will be left folding.

You can also use the regular uniprocessor clients. The WU's on these clients have a very loose deadline (as opposed to the SMP's which you will have to finish in 3 to 6 days). You can run a uniprocessor client per core, however make sure you watch the temperatures on the laptop (if you choose to fold on it) as they tend to warm up considerably.

Thanks, I was kinda wondering how to get it all into one thread

The laptop is on pretty much all day and all night anyways, so almost 24/7, I guess I could do the folding on that, just make sure that it's kept cool at all times

Ok, so once I've followed Chudley's guide and installed the stuff there, what do I do next? I've been told before I can join Redline I need to Fold a few (IIRC 1 ) WU's first, how do I do that if I've never folded before? Sorry to be a right pain and sound really dumb
blink.gif
, the actual folding side of things is completely new to me and very confusing. Though I'm pretty sure with the help that I've been getting and you awesomely wonderful guys I'll be folding in no time and be part of the awesome Redline Team and folding in the memory of Phil
biggrin.gif

Well, if you followed the guide correctly and you entered 98860 as your teamnumber you're al set (well if you start the program that is
wink.gif
)

It's just a matter of time before you finish the first WU.

All done, though on my connection (around 5 meg

) how long could I expect my first WU to take?

Does this now mean I'm folding and for Redline? lol

If you are using the Tracker you should be able to get an ETA after the first 3% (IIRC it also turns green at that time).

and yes, if you entered the correct info you are now folding for Redline @OC3D

I just double checked the details and I am now happy to report I'm folding for Redline

Gratz on your 1st percent and welcome to the team, look in this thread for a pic posted by me of where to click to get WU Completion Info

Thanks Chudley

I'm so excited about starting my first WU and can't wait for it to be completed. It's currently on 9% and 937PPD

It's so cool, I really wish I'd been introduced into the world of folding a lot sooner. I'm so proud to part of such an awesome team and to be doing something that's so amazing and in the memory of Phil

Too true, but there are also many other personal reasons why people on here fold, alot of people have lost close ones to diseases that have not got cures yet, but hopefully with all our help we might find a way to beat them some day soon.

What is certain is that you have joined a rocking team with a great community spirit.

I couldn't have put that any better myself
smile.gif

I've not been on here for a full day yet and I have already found the team spirit to be really great, it's like having an online family. Though I wouldn't mind you guys coming for Christmas
