Kingston DDR2 RAM

Hey there my lovely people.

I recently had to cancel a new build with Mesh computers due to their apalling service and blatant deceipt.

So this means upgrading my old system to last for another 6-9months (After our wedding). So I have purchased

an HD6970(XFX) and 4GB of Kingston 1066 DDR2 Ram. I also got a 850w PSU to power the new shiny shiny.

I have had endless issues since I added all these upgrades with "blue screen errors" and the whole PC just turning off and needing to be unplugged for 2min before it would let me restart.

At first I thought this was a PSU issue as I was restricted in my spending when I bought it. (Mesh took 2months to process a refund!!!)

So I have re-installed the old PSU and GFX Card HD4850 and the same issues stayed. So I have replaced the new ram (1066) with the old ram (800Mhz) and all the issues have stopped. I also re-installed the HD6970 and the new 850w PSU with the old ram and they work perfectly on max settings.

I am now at a xroads. Do I keep trying the New faster ram??? (If so what chan I change to make it stop crashing??)

Or do I send the faster ram back as Faulty??

Both ram sets are 4GB the only diff is the frequency.

I set the RAM to 1067mhz in BIOS when I installed it. Though I am not comfortable playing with Voltages yet, so left them on Auto.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your thoughts.

I think its a compatibility issue, or it has to do with the North bridge frequenty or some other bios setting..

Try to underclock you're ram to 800mhz see if it works, than the compatibility issue is out at least

Cheers!

Try shoving the memory voltage up to whatever it says on the back of the RAM (I'd guess 2.1V), then try bumping the NB voltage a little. Also check the timings on the RAM (make sure they match the sticker on the back of the RAM)
