First of all, I would like to apologise to everyone and TTL, over the last few months I have been stating I am going to get a SR-X. But since I have found out you can't overclock it, there is not much point watercooling it, so has lost my interest somewhat

So here is my next proposed build. Let me know what you think! I will be using it for gaming, but also a lot for modelling in Maya and rendering with Vray etc.

CPU: Intel 3930K

Mobo: Asus Rampage IV Extrmeme (cheers Diablo

)

Ram: 32GB Corsair Dominator 1866

GFX: 2 or 3 680s

Disks: 2x 120gb Intel 520 SSD in Raid

PSU: 1250W OCZ ZX1250W, Modular

Case: Corsair 800D

Cooling:

EK Supreme HF with HF#6

2x EK Dominator x4 Ram Blocks

EK Mobo Blocks

Full Cover EK GFX Blocks

2x PA120.3 Radiators

2x D5 Vario in EK Dual pump top

EK Res to match

So what do people think?

I am unsure whether to go for 2 or 3 cards, obv they aren't out yet so hard to say yet, but judging from previous generations I don't know if I can justify a 3rd card for 10% gains. We will see. (also must be nvidia, I also use CUDA for stuff)

I would also like some advice on the SSD, I haven't really been able to follow the Controller Madness, so don't know which ones are good. Sandforce or something?

And finally the ram, would like to get 32gb preferably. The doms look like they would run me about £260 for the lot. I also thought of going for the Mushkins but didn't know if they would work with the Ram Blocks?

Thanks for reading!

Awesome kit man, but PLEASE don't cheap out on the case. Go for a Lian-Li something like a A77, or a V2000 or an X2000, an 800D or a 600T, Coolermaster cases have been done to death. I would kill for an X2000 they look immense.

Hmm, yeah, not really a fan of Lian li. Plus I don't like the silver inside. Oh and I don't want to spend £450 on a case!!

I plan to do something a little different though so hopefully it will stand out from the normal.

Your spending all that money on the hardware, personally as I said I wouldnt cheap out and go with a run of the mill case. You can get Lian-Li cases with black guts too.

1866. I am disapoint jacky. Be like me 32gb of 2133 (as soon as i get a replacement motherboard that opens a bios. Ive got a bad feeling aria are goin to send it away to asus and they will work for them and ill be hit with uber shipping charges

Looking at the price it isn't actually that much more, so I may go for that instead!

And I've been looking around, I don't really see a nice Lian Li case tbh, plus they are all too expensive. If I was going to spend an extra £200 I would prefer to put it towards the CPU! I'll stick with the 800D, but I am going to try and mod it a fair amount so it will look different from the usual ones

IMO if you are modding there are better starting places out there than an 800D, its been done to death... I'm saying no more.

Haha. As you are so persistent I am going to have another look around. I don't really want it to be over £250 and I don't want the inside to be silver! So suggest away

Get a case, sub £200 choose any silver gutted Li-Li or whatever and powder coat it or spray it black, you'll spray it black in a weekend with rattle cans for £20.

Think I might actually go for the Switch! I don't want a massive case. Want a challenge!

Anyway, Updated the ram, think I will be getting some Mushkins now, 2133.

Has anybody got any advice on the SSDs? Custom PC suggests the Crucial M4, PC Format says the Vertex 3s.

I've bought an m4 to my craptop. relly looking forward to get som speed on my school pc.

but for my mainrigg, that i will be building soon, im going to use 2 corsair performance pro, in raid.

I can come with an update when i get the m4 and got tested it
wink.gif
i'll problaby get it tomorrow.

Ram speed has no impact on gaming performance

I'd say Intel 520s are the best performing ssds.

Yeah, but I'll be rendering a lot, so I might even get faster chips so I can down clock and get tighter timings

Cool, yeah I'm really need help choosing the ssd so I appreciate the input
