so does anyone think Intel will release a new chip for the 1366? I really like mine and the triple channel memory.
Article says 1155 so I would assume that Intel finished with older sockets and will not continue development on those. However if you have SB Mobo you will be able to upgrade.
It's kinda interesting, they just launched 32nm and already gearing up for 22.
Furthermore I wouldn't expect IB for <500$ because IB will not have competition on the market. SB will compete with Bulldozer and IB will be high price tagged enthusiast ones.

Hmm, I doubt it - I think they'll still have LGA2011 as their high end line with quad channel DDR3 etc. Ivy is AFAIK intended as a replacement for SB, so I would have thought they would be comparably, and maybe even slightly lower priced (due to the die shrink, though obviously not immediately as early adopters obviously pay a premium).
However, I'm sceptical of this 20-30% improvement which is being banded around. SB was faster than they were expecting it to be, and they must be banking on Ivy being similarly faster than expected - the changes being detailed along with the die shrink seem unlikely to bring 30% extra performance on their own, without a frequency increase.
Nonetheless, I look forward to following Ivy's development

Lol chips will shrink so much you'll have to be careful you don't inhale it when unboxing! Future unboxing vids will be a guy with a magnifying glass and tweazers
Thermal paste will be in low demand.
After ~14nm you can't shrink anymore because quantum mechanics starts messing too much. You need other materials than silicon for that.
Nope, 32nm has been about for around a year and will be around until end of this year.
It follows with Intels Tick Tock cycle of every two years having a new architecture and inbetween those two years (also on a two year cycle) releaseing a slightly improved version of that architecture on a smaller nm process.

I think 1356 is ivy bridge. New socket=new chipset and mobo. Plus ivy bridge is triple channel.
