ivy bridge release dates

The motherboards are out a good two weeks before the CPUs then

That gives me enough time to save for one and get rid of this H61 board i'm using now. Think i'm going to stick with SB and wait for HW rather than upgrading to Ivy though, not sure yet, depends on the monies.

Yeah, i don't think upgrading from SB to IB is that that much of a point unless you have good use for the revamped integrated graphics or (maybe) better overclocking or you are struggling with thermal issues. Because besides that the only thing that will change is some minor IPC optimizations to the cores (in the range of 6-8% better performance per clock).

Curious about the boards aswell. And the delay of the actual CPUs is luckily not an issue for me, as i tend to take quite some time on deciding for "the board".

Yeah, thats what i'm thinking, it's only a small performance increase but a lower TDP. Really, it's not worth the upgrade from SB unless you are doing a lot of benching and going for higher overclocks. Going from SB to Haswell though there will be quiet a big performance gap and an even lower TDP.

I was going to stick with my P67 board but seen as that broke I might as well grab a Z77 one though because I can't even overclock with the H61 one I am using now.

Tbh i don't even expect IB to overclock that much better than SB. You might not hit the thermal limit under air early though.

You will be able to get higher stable 24/7 overclocks on air because of the lower TDP, 5ghz should be doable with Ivy depending on the silicone lottery of cause. We might even see people getting 5.5ghz under water.

I really hope this is not as true as it seems to be. I have been waiting so long for this proc and it seems to being pushed back further and further...
