It's time for Frag to move from apartment, to HOUSE!

Frag, 2007 might just be your year matey. New dwelling, New job (dream job near enough) and now members on the forums with enough land to shoot all your guns at critters on, not to mention the arsenal joe wants build. Hope you still find time to play darts though.

Thx chud, it's definitely shaping up to be a great year minus court orders, restricted license, etc, hehe.

I still go on monday nights religiously to play darts, ALWAYS have time for darts. Going to try and get back in to the monday night pistol league to though, if that happens then I will alternate weeks between darts and shooting. The pistol league is maaaaad fun and I miss it.

you do save more money, im just wondering if they grey hairs are worth it.

Well all, unfortunately they rented that house out to someone else right underneath us so we're back looking again.

We called 10 places yesterday that looked appealing in the paper. We've already looked at two of them, both of which are nice.

The first we looked at is an original log cabin with lake front property on Lake Jackson in Manassas, VA, it's very old and looks like it could use some work. It's 2br/1ba and has ample parking on about a 1-2 acre lot. The guy only wants $975/month for it so we are thinking that since it's so old it might need some serious work inside. From what we can tell at this location, we may not be able to get Cable internet, and possibly not even DSL :(.

The second place we looked at is a 3br/1.5ba guest house on a large 78 acre estate. We met with the owner last night who is older, I would say about 65. Her husband was a farmer and passed away about a decade ago and she's looking for some roomies to rent her guest house for a bit of extra income. Now this place is super nice, ample space, in the woods, and of course on 78 beautiful acres. Same problem with the internet however. We think we can get DSL at this location, definitely no cable, and we do know that it gets covered by a local WiFi provider offering a 1.5mbps connection which is better than nothing. IIRC this lady wants $1200/month for this spot.

We are waiting to get call backs today hopefully on the 8 others we're looking at to give us some options. So far out of the two we have looked at the second is looking like the better option. I hope to have more news of other possible locations by mid-week :)

sounds cool, good look with it all. I know it can be a pain. I've been looking at shared ownership house's. Maybe able to move out shortly. Nothing as nice as all yours sound mind you :p

Thats a shame mate, hope some of the new properties work out ok. The rental prices seem pretty tame for what you would get in the UKbut the lack of decent

broadband connections is a major flaw.

Tis a must!!!

Yeah, since I have a fetish with hacked cable internet it's going to be sad to see it go if we do move in to one of these places without cable... Everything will feel slow compared to what I had, even the fastest DSL is going to feel like a damned turtle on the downloads.

The WiFi access at the second property does give us access to a full asynchronous T1 connection but T1's are outdated craptasticness. But the upload speeds would at least be half decent.

There`s alot of wireless internet about in remote towns at the minute.

Tbh I was very sceptical about how good it would be - but apparently, since it`s install, the service is really good. They get like 4/8m connection or something, and sure it drops in variable weather situations, but looking at that next to dialup, I know which I`d chose.

Verizon are pretty good at it, dunno which operators u`ll find in the areas.

Biggest point I wanted to make was - one of the major considerations I have when looking at property is how good of an internet connection can I get ? How times move on.

Looks like a load of tuff-grass to cut to Frag ;) U`ll have to get a wireless mower sorted out, or buy a goat.

Do be sure to check the foundations in connection with the wood-work, there are alot of houses I`ve seen similar to that where when there`s a big gap between rain-falls, the doors refuse to close cos of movement under the house >.< U run a hose under the foundations for a long time and u can close them again LOL

Best of luck Frag - I`m supprized u`d pick this over an appartment tho tbh.

Rast, I take it you've never lived in an apartment...

I've lived in apartments ever since I turned 18 and moved out of my parents house (with the exception of one place I had a triple wide trailer, that was booomb :)).

I hate apartment living with a passion, shatty neighbors all around that I'd like to stab, I HATEEEE IT!

TBH, houses are the only way to go, specially when u can save money having a room mate.

We deffo do plan on checking the foundation of the cabin since it's so old and on a bit of a downhill slant towards the lake.

The rambler we looked at is new within the last 10 years so we know there's no problem with that unit. We got another call back and tonight at 6 we are going to look at another house on a bit of land and check it out. It's about 15 minutes further out from where I work than I am now, but if the place is nice enough and possibly has cable then it's worth considering in my book.

Meh, it`s all down to personalities I guess - every1s different.

I`ve always lived in a house - cept over here it`s a little different, if I wanted a house with atleast 2 acres about it, I`d probably have to go to the valleys or something >.<

Here, just in the land u can see in u`r prospects picture, we will have anything from 4 to 8 houses situated - I would expect u`d hate that just as much. With u`r neighbors squatting kids year after year.

I`m observing an appartment tower in the center of cardiff atm, the price of it rings it at around £150k (~$300k) and I regard that as cheaply priced for what it is. They`re the type where u can move in and everything I`d want to do to it to make it ideal has already been done >.<

I`ve never thought of neighbors in an appartment block as being a nightmare..

Was discussing apartments with a mate the other day. he says theres a certain aspect of feeling like your on holiday. Big block of apartments, everyone making noise ect. i cant comment myself as i've never lived in one.

I live in a small block of flats and don't have any problems with Neighbours at all. It's pretty decenty and at least it's a nice place that we could afford. The South's pretty damn dear :(
